Progressive Billionaires Call for Higher Taxes. Why Not ‘Donate’ To Gov’t *Now* ?
by Shifra on July 3, 2019Sounds like nothing more than Lib virtue-signaling. But if they are really serious about wanting higher taxes, the Treasury accepts “Gifts to the United States” at P.O. Box 1328, Parkersburg, W.Va. I’m sure they can afford the postage. Via WSJ. Nineteen uberwealthy Americans posted an open letter Monday calling on “all candidates for President” to support a “moderate” wealth tax. Signatories include the investor George Soros, Berkshire Hathaway scion Molly Munger, Mickey Mouse heiress Abigail Disney, Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, and a couple of Hyatt Hotel progeny from the Pritzker family. “America has a moral, ethical and economic responsibility to tax our wealth more,” they say. Revenue squeezed from the top 0.1% could fund “smart investments,” such as “clean energy...

Over Half Of Prince’s Estate Will Go To Government
by Pat_S on April 30, 2016If he had been married or did some better tax planning it would have been less but still a windfall for the federal and Minnesota governments. Why Over Half of Prince’s Estate Will Go to the Government It appears that the pop star Prince may have died without a will, leaving behind a multi-million dollar and growing estate. Although Prince has one full sister and five half-siblings, Prince’s family members will not be his biggest heirs. Both the federal government and Minnesota’s state government will assess so-called “death taxes” or estate taxes on Prince’s assets, taking away more than half his estate. Between his physical assets—cash, investments, home, etc.—and his future royalties, Prince’s estate has been estimated to be between...

On This Tax Day: Fair Share? 45% Of Americans Pay Zero Income Taxes
by Tammy on April 18, 2016A good reminder from Investors Business Daily on the truth aout taxes and how the top 20% shoulder 88% of the burden. Not fair, not balanced, and must be replaced. Via IBD. Tax Policy: Democrats keep demanding that the rich pay their “fair share” of income taxes. But they never say what fair is. Probably because they know that the rich pay huge amounts while 45% of households pay nothing. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center has some eye-opening statistics on its site that should silence the “tax fairness” debate, if the numbers were widely known. For example, did you know that the richest 20% of households pay 88% of federal income taxes? Or that this is up from 64.7% the...

Feds Will Spend $600,000 To Research Why People Cheat On Taxes
by Shifra on April 14, 2016Our tax dollars are now spent trying to figure out why people don’t want to pay taxes? Got it. With Tax Day right around the corner, a federal agency is facing criticism for approving more than $600,000 to study – wait for it – why some people cheat on their taxes. Maybe it’s because of projects like this? Whatever the researchers discover, one Republican lawmaker is fuming that the National Science Foundation felt the need to fund such a report. “It’s inconceivable that the NSF decided to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ dollars to study why some individuals cheat on their taxes,” Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, told FoxNews.com. The National Science Foundation green-lighted the 2015 proposal which set out...

Gracias? IRS Letting People Pay Their Taxes In Cash at 7-Eleven Stores
by Tammy on April 7, 2016So, let me see if I understand this: The IRS is letting people pay taxes in cash, but you still have to go through the internet to make the arrangement. But they completely expect some group of people to not be engaged in the system enough to bother having a checking account or a credit card, or even engage in business where your identity can be proven separately from your filing. Who knew the Fed would help make identity theft even more rewarding? This story from Minnesota is one tiny example of what’s happening right now==> County residents falling victim to IRS refund fraud. Think about that. The IRS appears to be allowing people to file their taxes in a...

Netflix And Amazon Users Sue Chicago Over 9% Streaming Tax
by Pat_S on September 14, 2015On July 1 of this year Chicago implemented a 9% tax for every use of streaming and cloud services such as Netflix. The tax is on consumers but effectively collected by the companies providing the service. The city claims it isn’t a new tax but rather an interpretation of the existing amusement and property lease taxes. A group of Chicago residents have initiated a court challenge to the tax. They argue the amusement tax applied to streaming service is actually a new tax and needed to be voted on by city officials. The lawsuit also claims the tax violates the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act. Chicago’s move portends a nightmare of separate municipalities imposing similar taxes. The tax is expected...

by Tammy on October 14, 2014Filling in for Cavuto, Varney does a great job highlighting the gobsmacking hypocrisy of the NIH director who blames supposed budget cuts for lack of an Ebola vaccine. Watch as Varney details the ridiculous “studies” on which they’ve been recklessly spending our tax dollars. All these federal bureaucrats should be thrown out on the ears. NC Democrat Resigns After Being Arrested on Tax Charges
by Tammy on December 13, 2013Taxes are for the little people. by the way, she was “surprised” by the charges. I’m sure all Democrats are surprised by crime being take seriously considering what Obama gets away with. And kudos to this local station. I fully expected them to not mention her political affiliation, but they did so right at the start. Via Free Beacon. North Carolina State Rep. Deb McManus was arrested on felony tax charges Wednesday and has subsequently resigned, after posting a $150,000 bond. McManus, is a first-term Democrat and a longtime member of the Chatham County School board, where she served her term. She was charged with three felony counts of embezzlement of state money. Krauthammer On Fiscal Cliff Negotiations: “Republicans Ought To Simply Walk Away”
by Tammy on November 29, 2012Agree completely. Especially after this truly insane proposal by the Obama regime, they must walk away. Yes, Obama expects them to cave because they’ve been panicking like scared little babies and Boehner telegraphed his subservience almost immediately after the election, but it’s never too late to grow a spine and do the right thing. Additionally: Senator Jeff Sessions: Obama’s ‘Plan’ a ‘Fabrication’

Obama May Levy Carbon Tax To Cut US Deficit
by Tammy on November 7, 2012I’ve argued for quite some time the hoax of “climate change” has always been an excuse to tax Americans. Now right out of the gate, it looks like Obama is going for it. If you want to continue to punch the economy in the face and drive up energy and gas costs (causing inflation across the board) this is a sure-fire way to do it. Via the Washington Post. Barack Obama may consider introducing a tax on carbon emissions to help cut the U.S. budget deficit after winning a second term as president, according to HSBC Holdings Plc. A tax starting at $20 a metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent and rising at about 6 percent a year could raise...

Would You Buy Used Clothes From This Man?
by Pat_S on October 9, 2011Someone should look into a crony capitalism connection between Herman Cain and the needle and thread industry. Explaining the sales tax portion of his 9-9-9 plan on CNN, Mr. Cain pointed out detractors of his plan were assuming people would be buying new things. That’s where their analysis is flawed, he said. Crowley: You would make an exemption for food and clothing? Cain: No. No exemptions. You don’t need those exemptions. Crowley: A poor person is paying the same amount of tax on groceries as I would. Does that sound fair? Cain: Yes, because of the other point I’m about to make. If they need a car or home or other hard goods that are used they pay no taxes....

Santa Claus Wants A Tax Increase For Christmas
by Pat_S on August 23, 2011No, the North Pole Santa isn’t joining the chorus of the mega rich demanding to be taxed more. It’s the jolly old souls like Ed Rendell and Howard Dean, believers in a Santa Claus government, who want a tax increase–on businesses. (OK, the word jolly doesn’t really apply to Howard Dean.) This exchange on MSNBC’s Morning Joe with Howard Dean, Ed Rendell and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) makes the political philosophical differences starkly clear. The Republican argues businesses create jobs. The Democrats think businesses exist to pay taxes so government can create jobs. Rogers was actually on the show to discuss Libya. In particular what to do with the leftover weapons, including suspected chemical weapons. The word “money” came up...

Class Envy
by Pat_S on April 23, 2011Perhaps the Kohler ad for their new $6,400 toilet will inspire a DNC ad: if the rich have money to throw into a toilet, it might as well be the government.

by Tammy on July 8, 2010From the Tax Guy at SmartMoney. Obama’s tax plans for you are so fabulous they actually suggest you have a drink before proceeding. Here I’ll give you the headlines so please do go and read the whole thing for all the freakish details. How the Expiring Bush Tax Cuts Affect You The so-called Bush tax cuts are scheduled to expire at the end of the year.
