Cryptominers have located in Plattsburgh NY because of low rent and especially low electric rates, 1/2 the national avg. Cryptomining takes a large amount of electricity. What has happened is Plattsburgh area usage has significantly increased, kicking the electric bill up to a higher rate, thereby increasing residents electric bills $100 to $200. Plattsburgh has therefore instituted a moratorium on new cryptomining operations. (The area hospital already had a $50k/yr increase from Gov. Cuomo's Green Energy Plan for shutting down NYC nuclear plants.)
