Race and IQ Science Project from my old school!

C. K. McClatchy High School includes in its alumni, Justice Anthony Kennedy, California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tami Cantil-Sakauye, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and me. I am the outlier. The latest uncomfortable rumbling from my old school is a mini science fair project. The student attempts to link lower average IQ scores among certain racial groups versus higher average IQ scores among different racial groups and its effect on the proportion of the racial groups in the Humanities and International Studies Program, or HISP. In what could have been an object lesson in logic, correlation vs. causation, construct validity, confirmation bias, other factors not accounted for it in a small study, inherent error in measurement, etc; it is a social justice warrior problem. The student's study was taken down. It hurt too many feelings. You may not hear much about this controversy because the student was “of Asian descent”. That might conflict the social justice warriors on what side to pick. I am curious to see what the results were and how any conclusions were drawn. Alas, it was memory holed for the sake of safe spaces.

  1. Maynard says:

Recall that James Watson, who won a Nobel Prize for discovering the DNA double helix, lost his research position and became a non-person after he raised the question of a correlation between genetics and failed cultures in Africa. (Of course he apologized, but that never helps.) We kick our brilliant pioneering researchers to the curb for the sake of the ignorant mob. And normal people like us look at the ruined lives of great people and realize how easily we can lose everything if we’re ever caught with a bad tweet or the like. So we live in fear, those of us that are in any way vulnerable.

Used to be Lysenkoism was a Soviet thing. Times change.
