Okay, seeking a moment of escapism here…

There has been a plague of celebrities putting their names on adult beverages. In the vodka arena, such luminaries as Ed McMahon and Sean “Diddy” Combs have stepped into the ring. Now it’s Dan Akroyd‘s turn…

Akroyd has established a reputation for eclectic pursuits, ranging from “the blues” to “the greys” (space aliens, that is). Now he brings us Crystal Head Vodka.

I (Maynard) have developed something of an interest in vodka. Vodka is the purist’s choice, since it, by definition, contains nothing but grain alcohol and water. In theory, vodka should be a generic product, and all vodkas should be the same. Obviously this is not true in practice.

Personally I favor giving my business to the heartland when the option exists. These days I’m buying Tito’s Vodka out of Texas. In his interesting introductory video, Akroyd mentions the European bottles and Canadian product…and there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s a demerit as far as my “fun” spending goes. (The actual vodka is distilled in Newfoundland; an island that is noteworthy for hosting a friendly little town with the unfortunate name of (I am not making this up) Dildo. Be sure to visit the Dildo Dory Grill, and then set off on an exciting “Dildo Island Adventure Tour®”.

Back to Crystal Head Vodka…Mr. Akroyd also mentions a “very slight creamy sweetness”; I wonder where the flavor comes from? He suggests it’s of mysterious origin.

If nothing else, this stuff would look good on your shelf. I’m not sure you can get your hands on it yet, but it’s starting to appear at the online liquor stores (such as here or here; here’s the Google shopping list).

Its distilled by “Goofy Newfies”. Thats why its creamy. We Scotch are fond of cream. Even with our whisky; and of course in our coffee after the night of drinking.
