Maynard Explains Economics in Five Words
by Maynard on February 20, 2013Good economics? Bad economics? We argue endlessly, but our arguments are mostly misdirected. What are the key points? At a basic level, what makes an economy rise or fall? I'll try to cast some light on a much-obscured topic. Read on and learn how five words convey the basic framework of all things economic. Five words, a few connections, and you'll understand why some policies nurture and others destroy. Here we go!

Obama Commits Assault With Battery
by Maynard on February 14, 2013Workers at this Michigan battery plant built with a $150 million federal stimulus grant but never opened played games and watched movies while their wages were paid for by U.S. taxpayers, according to a government report. This is the same factory site where, less than 3 years ago, Obama loudly proclaimed himself the savior of American industry. What happened?

Barack Obama’s Political Prisoner
by Maynard on November 29, 2012I have qualms about writing this. To assert that a political prisoner has been jailed in America is a serious charge. And the man in question is not exactly a Boy Scout. Do I really want to champion him? But, dammit, this must be said. Tell me if I've gotten it wrong. Obama's prisoner is Mark Basseley Youssef, the man behind that "Innocence of Muslims" film...

Public Library in SanFran Installs Privacy Hood on PCs for Porn Watchers
by Maynard on August 5, 2012**Promoted from TAM Wire, posted by Maynard** More madhouse news. Chick-fil-A becomes a huge national controversy, and is accused of hatemongering and crimes against humanity, because an executive opines that marriage is between a man and a woman. Meanwhile, the San Francisco library, supposedly a repository of human knowledge and wisdom, degenerates into a wanking station for perverts. Dammit, aside from everything else, we’ve lost sight of the vital fact that porn is pointless if you don’t have to sneak it and hide it. When I was a kid, the culture supported a better grade of pervert. It will be no fun being a pervert anymore when there are no longer taboos to violate. Or maybe perverts will be the...

Ec 101: The Theory and Practice of Economic Suicide for Fun and Profit
by Maynard on July 24, 2012Obama's lackeys are still screaming about Bain, and whether it created or destroyed jobs. As so often happens in political discourse, both sides are getting drawn into a ridiculous argument. This is why politics is inherently dysfunctional: To address a problem, you must first be willing to name the problem accurately. But the political discussion rarely gets to that point. The number of jobs isn't the key to a sustainable recovery; only if those jobs are productive can we pull out of this nosedive in a meaningful way. Fixation on the job count alone may get you through an election, but it's a sure way, in the long run, to destroy the economy and kill jobs.
