April Fool: India SEC

Very few women are on Asian companies Boards of Directors, so the India SEC mandated that a woman be appointed to company Boards by April 1, 2015. Some companies are responding by appointing the Chairman's wife.

I don't like that the SEC thinks that it can mandate 'equality'. I'd be okay with it if the Stock Exchanges required it as an eligibility requirement for listing. Then if the company doesn't like the requirement, it can go to another Exchange.

“… China tops the list with women making up 8 percent of corporate board directors. Japan with 2 percent and South Korea with 1 percent are at the bottom of the heap. In India, women are 5 percent of directors….”
