I can’t think of a better post to start off the Tammy blog. After months of protest, phone calls and outrage, the up-until-now-silent Governor of NY George Pataki has put the kabosh on the obscenity of the “International Freedom Center” at Ground Zero.
Pataki’s silence was a major point of discussion between Debra Burlingame and myself on today’s Tammy Show. I’ll be having her back on my Saturday show for an update. Nothing can make up for the loss of her brother, the pilot of American Flight 77, or the loss all of us have experienced. But at least we can do our best to make sure those who sympathize with the enemy or wish for this nation to fail do not succeed. We’re all quite lucky Debra stepped up to the plate and warned us all of this debacle.
While this is a victory for all of us, and a reminder of the importance and power of the individual speaking up, it is still unacceptable that it took Pataki so long to chime in. He only did so, keep in mind, after Hillary Clinton made her remarks condemning the IFC, which finally prompted Guiliani to do the same.
Usually, when a politician seems oddly out of step (which is most of the time) all one usually needs to do is follow the money. Pataki, in fact, has become rather financially beholden to downtown developers involved with the WTC rebuilding and in part responsible for the IFC. You can find that story at Skyscrapercity.
