Meeoow.....oops, I mean 'GRRROWWWLLLLL!'

Big Kitty

Wow. Not exactly who I’d want pouncing on me in the morning. At the same time, your cat would kick the ass of every other cat in the neighborhood. Along with a few dogs, too. And maybe a few people. Hmm…

Oh, and all for only $22,000.

A colossal cat comes with a princely price tag

The Ashera, bred by Los Angeles-based Lifestyle Pets, “is a new ultra-exotic breed of domestic cat that already has wealthy animal devotees paying to get on the waiting list,” the company press release claims…The pricey pet is said to have been produced by cross-breeding an African Serval and an Asian Leopard Cat with a domestic feline…

And like most other super-luxury items, the company says it will sell only 100 Asheras per year worldwide, with only 50 being sold to U.S. customers.

Man, and I thought the Ocicat was pretty. How long until the price comes down?

I got a cat when she showed up in my yard (with kittens) and claimed my house and me. It didn’t seem quite fair, but she told me this is the way it’s always been done, and nothing can ever change that. It took some time, but I’ve come to appreciate the wisdom of this ancient tradition. The idea of “buying” a cat seems more than a little absurd. I’m honored and proud to be steward to a genuine cat, and not some store-bought cream-fed namby-pamby airy-fairy artificial pussycat.

There’s a cat fight a coming from the breeders of Savannah cats. Same cat??? The fur will fly in the courts!

    Wow, absolutely gorgeous!

I dunno about this. Why try to breed a new variation of a species that is already perfect?

This is an interesting cat. I have long wondered why domestic cats are basically one size while domestic dogs comes in a huge range of sizes. I have come to the conclusion that there is really no such thing as a domestic cat. If you take you basic Siamese cat and scale it up to 4 or 5 times the original size, you will have a lion.

  7. Ferdy says:

The various evolutionary branches of Felidae resulted mostly from migration. The species drifted apart because huge distances and disappearing land bridges made interbreeding impractical. Tigers can mate with lions, but they don’t get the chance because the tiger is designed for the jungle and the lion is designed for the veldt, and there are hundreds of miles between the lion’s veldt and the tiger’s jungle. Dogs, on the other hand, have traveled with humanity all across the globe, interbreeding like crazy the whole time. The wide variety of dogs is therefore the result of thousands of years of artificial selection.

Deliberate human breeding of cats, on the other hand, is only a few hundred years old, and this is the first time someone’s had the gall to try something radical in the way of size and shape.

I’d hate to see what happens if this cat gets hungry.
