Julia Child doing what she loved. Check out the painting in the background 🙂

Famed chef Julia Child, along with 24,000 other people who kept the secret, revealed now in files finally released by the CIA. Yes, this was a time, boys and girls, when the United States actually had an intelligence network and spies. A page in history from which the idiots in Washington could learn from.

Documents: Julia Child Part of WWII-Era Spy Ring

Famed chef Julia Child shared a secret with Supreme Court Justice Arthur Goldberg and Chicago White Sox catcher Moe Berg at a time when the Nazis threatened the world.
A list of former spies is being declassified, revealing some surprising names.

They served in an international spy ring managed by the Office of Strategic Services, an early version of the CIA created in World War II by President Franklin Roosevelt.

The full secret comes out Thursday, all of the names and previously classified files identifying nearly 24,000 spies who formed the first centralized intelligence effort by the United States. The National Archives, which this week released a list of the names found in the records, will make available for the first time all 750,000 pages identifying the vast spy network of military and civilian operatives…

her husband paul was a field operative in the OSS so this is no surprise at all( well not if you’re in the food industry around here- you’re bound to run into some chef who knew the couple well enough to know this. paul was a great guy by all accounts.)

I’ve loved Julia Child since I was a kid watching “The French Chef” on Saturday afternoons. Now I love her even more!

  3. A truly remarkable woman. A lot of well-known women did some interesting stuff back then. Another example is Heddy LaMar, who was instrumental in devising what we now know as spread-spectrum radio technology. I say instrumental with a double meaning. The original idea was made operational when she and her husband devised a frequency-shifting mechanism based on a player piano mechanism.

Check out Moe Berg: Athlete, Scholar, Spy. Fascinating biography. He was actually assigned to sit in on a lecture in Zurich by Werner Heisenberg, German Nobel Prize winning physicist, and if Heisenberg even suggested Germany was on the verge of creating atomic weapon he was supposed to kill him on the spot. Can’t see players these days even capable of being put in that situation. We need to save the world from WMD’s! Send in A-Rod! Yeah, it ain’t happening.
