This new poll reflects only the new names being bandied about lately for McCain’s VP. I’m asking if these men are the top choices, which do you prefer? I realize you may have an ultimate favorite expressed in our previous poll (which Mitt Romney won handily) but these men were not included, so I”m curious to see where you stand. I started as a supporter of Giuliani, so this especially intrigues me.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Bobby Jindal, but I’m still not convinced quite enough that John McCain isn’t going to somehow blow this opportunity. Therefore, I voted for Rudy. I still want Bobby to keep his powder dry… as I have visions of him sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office!

From these choices, I have to go for Giuliani. I think McCain will be a disaster as President. I don’t want to see Jindal tainted by it.

Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin — the ticket in about 8 years. I feel like I have at least some idea of Jindal’s broader politics after hearing a few radio interviews. I know precious little about Palin though, except that she’s feisty, her kids have quirky names, she’s pro-US oil, and pro-life. Both governors need much more time and experience as a practical matter, and so as to not make us hypocrites in our criticism of BO’s severe lack of it.

Like many of you, I really like Bobby Jindal and I believe that he has a solid future ahead of him. Like Pat said, being associated with McCain would be bad for him. I was a Guiliani supporter and I think that he’s a good choice for McCain. Rudy has a history of his own aside from McCain and any McCain stink won’t hurt him. Honestly, though, after the horrible campaign Rudy ran, I don’t really give a damn about his future. He’s a good stop-gap candidate until Jindal and the other new blood has had some time to mature.

  5. Jindal for Guliani’s or Bolton’s VP in 2012 is more like it.

We may have high hopes for Jindal, but he’s still a blank slate, and very young. It’s hard to believe he’s ready for the job. Let’s see what he does in Louisiana. I like Giuliani because of his track record in achieving real progress in the ultra-liberal, dysfunctional New York City (a bigger job than being governor of most states). That suggests he has the skills needed to do some good in Washington. (Skills that McCain, as a Senator, hasn’t proved he has.) I’m sure I’d have some policy quibbles with Giuliani, but then that’s true of everyone. He’s competent and stands against the kooks; that’s what you want in a Veep. Both McCain and Giuliani and generally respected and liked in mainstream America; I can imagine many people voting for them, but there wouldn’t be a significant number of people voting against them.

Bobby is incredible, and would make any Presidential Candidate proud to have him as a running mate! Sorry, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want any part of it (I’ve heard him say so twice on TV) because he apparently is fully committed to finish what he has started here in Louisiana.

  8. Dave J says:

Like you, Tammy, I was originally a Rudy supporter, so I’d love to see him on the ticket. As a Tulane Law alum a part of whose heart will always be in New Orleans, I’m also a huge fan of Bobby Jindal’s (even despite him going to LSU), but I also think Louisiana should not be deprived of him so soon and handed over to Dem Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu and the old corrupt machine just waiting to pounce.

Tom Ridge? No way. He was a mediocrity as governor and on Homeland Security. If McCain has a shot in PA, Ridge won’t make a difference either way.

But my #1 pick would still be Sarah Palin.

  9. Rob says:

I would love the thought of a Jindal, or Palin ticket, but ignoring the likelihood of their ruined reputations for being associated with it, these are currently very big people with very big jobs in key positions we need right now. They have jobs they (& we) need finished prior to any other plans. A great example would be if Clarence Thomas were on the list. Could we really afford the Supreme Court loss? Not even hardly!!!

  10. Shawmut says:

I find that with the exception of Romney, most of the VP options have more experience than “O Man”.
It makes the youthfulness, not youth, of Jindal reasonable.
Frankly, it would be wise to keep the pro-life theme up front. McCain’s certitude when asked gained him credibility even among the pro-choice crowd.

  11. Kimj7157 says:

Jindal is great, but is young, and I think finishing his term as Governor is important, not only to gain some valuable experience and hone his already considerable skills, but to prove himself in a way that can’t be denied. He’s going to accomplish great things for the people of Louisiana. Then, perhaps, a Jindal/Palin ticket in 4 years?? 🙂

    So, I voted for Rudy.
