Chicago, Tokyo Out of Running to Host Olympics

Chicago received a shocking first-round exit from the race to hold the 2016 Summer Games, becoming the first city eliminated when International Olympic Committee members cast votes in a secret ballot Friday.

Chicago’s elimination came just hours after President Obama left Denmark following a brief visit in which he personally appealed to the IOC to choose his adopted home town, promising that “the city of Chicago and the United States of America will make the world proud.”

Maybe Chicago should have sent ACORN.

    M’m m’m good!
He’s campaigned all over the world on how much America sucked. Apparently he succeeded in convincing them. Congratulations Urkel.

I’m glad the rejection made Urkel and Mybelle Michelle look like idiots but the truth of the matter is that Chicago lost the Olympics back in 1996. That year, Atlanta did such a sorry job of hosting the games that many members of the IOC swore then that the United States would never get another shot at hosting the games. Chicago was set up to fail and Urkel and Bride were set up to look foolish. I guess we can all have a good laugh at that.

    EPIC. FAIL. DOT COM.

Sorry, Chicago cronies, you won’t be able to turn your slums into an Olympic village. Sad story.

  6. jack023 says:

Pres. Oblame-a can now ‘Blame It On Rio’.

  7. MRFIXIT says:

Well, This is obviously a case where the world’s hatred of Bush’s America has not yet been healed! Between the inherent racist undertone of the Olympic committee, and the open wounds left by the Bush administration, including the GITMO, and ABU-GRAIB scandals, not to mention caterpillar torture [GASP!!!]. It was obviously just impossible for “The One” to overcome this inherited distaste so early in his presidency. He has yet to perform his miracles. The people are thwarting his miracle to heel the sick through the mystery health care bill, and the great unwashed are even keeping him from performing the miracle of making the best car in the world via GM. Fox news won’t even join the “sane” objective media and supress coverage of tax protests and raucus town hall meetings. It’s tough when the aura of the divine is not allowed to cast it’s glow upon the face of the world. (keep goin’)

I’m thrilled that Rio gets the Olympics instead of the corrupt slumlords of Chicago!

  9. Shicks2227 says:

HA! I am glad they picked another venue in Rio- not just because HE made a ;special; effort to waste our $$$ flying himself and Michelle (separate planes BTW) but because WE don’t deserve another Olympics yet! South America sounds fair to me and and when you’re talking about ANYTHING being mmmm….mmmm…Good- It has got to be those Lovely Girls from Ipanema winning out over B.O. ANYDAY!!!

My mayor Daley put up a pathetic bid of $5B vs $14.4 from Rio. He kept telling the IOC not to worry, they would take care of overages if costs went over that. He told us, his constituents, dont worry, they had secured $500 million in insurance coverage to take care of costs (what if it went to $20B like UK?). At the last minute, without telling Chicagoans or Chicago Alderman, he told the Olympic Committee that taxpayers would make up the difference (what a surprise? Oh, not from our mayor who bulldozed Meigs Field Airport overnight without telling anyone so he could put up a park with concert venue). Mayor Daley, thanks for showing us what will soon happen to Urkel with the mindset of jamming whatever you want down the taxpayers throats. Next will be the end of Daley in 2011 (and Urkel in 2012).

It’s pretty weird that Obama went to bat on this one in such an ostentatious manner and then struck out with the full spotlight on him. Another example of how lousy his judgment is.

I can’t help but abstractly wonder whether Obama may, in later life, become a wiser man. He’s clearly still a dumb kid, playing his games based on theories and dreams, but completely ignorant of the workings of the world. Remember that Ronald Reagan was liberal in his youth. Some people eventually grow up. Unfortunately, we don’t have time to wait. Obama’s mistakes are going to have catastrophic consequences for the nation and the world.
