Okay everyone, I mentioned this on Tammy Radio today–I am preparing a “Holiday Drinks” netcast for the TAMs and am calling for recipe submissions. While I have a few favorites of my own, please submit your recipe here for possible inclusion in the netcast. So have at it, and remember peeps, I think I have about 28 listeners now and there’s about 57 or 58 readers of the blog, so every single one of you counts. Please do not drink and drive, but you can drink read, or drink and listen to Tammy Radio 😉

Here’s one of the drinks you’ll see me mix up on the netcast–my recipe for the Green Apple Vanilla Martini:

2 oz of any vanilla vodka (vanilla being the secret ingredient)

1 oz of green apple schnapps

Shake with lots of ice in a martini shaker

After shaking, add a little lemon-line soda pop. You can also add apple puree if you like.

Sugar around the glass rim for more sweetness.

If you have a variation of this, feel free to post. 🙂

I’m an advocate of the White Russian, which at its core mixes ethanol and coffee. It alters your state as an adult beverage should while keeping you on your toes. If mixed with quality ingredients, it’s not a big inducer of hangovers, at least not in my experience.

I also make an effort to buy American when I can. No need to go abroad for vodka. These days I favor Tito’s out of Texas, which is mellow and palatable, and can be had for an affordable price at Trader Joe’s and elsewhere. For the coffee liquor, there’s nothing wrong with the standard Kahlua (if I’m buying an import, I’d rather buy from our neighbor Mexico or Canada than Asia or Europe); however lately I’ve instead bought a Starbucks coffee liquor which I’m liking…seems to be a tad less sweet than Kahlua. I just noticed that Trader Vic’s offers a Kona coffee liquor; maybe that’s worth a try. Kona is the only coffee grown in America, since Hawaii is the only place in America suitable for coffee farms.

My favorite is the black russian. I make mine with equal measures of Kahlua and vodka. I’ll be on the lookout for a good domestic vodka as you mentioned…up to now I’ve been using decent vodka such as Smirnoff, but nothing really exotic.

Like Tammy and Maynard, I’m a coffee junkie. So try this one for Kwanzaaramadanahanamas:

    SEAL OF APPROVAL HOLIDAY EGGNOG

    6 eggs, separated
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 pint heavy cream
    1 pint milk
    6 oz. whiskey
4 oz. Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
    2 oz. Amaretto
    Ground nutmeg

Beat the yolks with 1/2 cup sugar until thickened. Beat the whites with 1/4 cup sugar until standing in soft peaks. Beat the cream until thickened, but not whipped hard. Fold together the yolks and the whites, and then fold in the cream. Add the whiskey, rum, and amaretto, and add add lots of nutmeg. Chill thoroughly. Stir once before serving with more nutmeg on top.

(Yes, I know it’s easier to just buy eggnog and add the booze.)

And may I say MERRY CHRISTMAS! to Tammy, Maynard, Pat S, and all my fellow TAMS . . .

When I’m in the mood for something “holiday-like” (meaning something less meaty than the standard ‘dirty’ gin martini), I like to go with the fuzzy navel…equal amounts of rum, peach schnapps and orange juice. I like to add a little extree kick to mine by adding a splash of peach-plavored vodka. One of those and you’ll feel all warm and happy. The caroles will come free and easy.

    The Cortez, or Conquistador Campfire:

One part mezcal. Any will do.
One part muscadine wine. Very sweet usually, so adjust to suit.
Two parts coffee. Three if you’re starting at dawn. Don’t ask.

Make available for individual application, to taste:
cinnamon stick, or ground spice form… Just a pinch for most.
Curry powder…. Whatever. It’s for the headstrong brave, who will pay no heed anyway.

I accidentaly pushed return when I was putting in my recipe and left out step #4 put in microwave.
When I lived in Garden Grove CA I was introduced to a drink called “Cocoa Samoa” I don’t know how they make it but it has chunks of cocoa beans in it. It was actually very good. Samoans really know a lot about cooking and eating.

or moët et chandon white label
with a splash of chambord in each glass.

    ADD
    1 Large ice tea bag
3 bags decaf orange spice tea (I don’t need a lot of caffeine)
    one cinnamon stick
    a slice of apple (optional)
    let steep for 5 minutes
    pull out tea bags
leave cinn. stick in (and apple slice)
add 1 C. apple juice (I love juicy juice)
    add 1/2 C. cranberry juice
warm on med heat till almost boiling
ladle into mug leaving enough room for Captain Morgan’s spice rum
    I garnish w/ a slice of orange
I sip on this all day while cooking my holidy dinner, I’m definately cranked at dinner time.
    Merry Christmas.

Homemade eggnog. This is my mother’s recipe. Don’t know where it came from. Some may not like it. Very fattening. I’m a non drinker, so add booze if you wish. This will make 2 quarts.
    2 cups orange juice
    2 cups heavy cream
    4 cups whole milk
    1 to 1 1/4 cups sugar
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 raw egg yolk
Whip up egg whites and put on top of drink with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
    Cheers!

    Cranberry juice
Seltzer (alternatively, quinine water or ginger ale)
    Gin

A simple drink, sweet and palette cleansing. Be reluctant to add much gin as this drink does not stay in your glass long.
