In Texas. Early reports are the man first set his house on fire then flew the small plane into the building. I give it even odds the fascists in the White House will blame it on the Nazi-Mob-Brownshirt Tea Party Fringe Movement. 3-2-1…

Texas Small Plane Crash Might Be Intentional Act, Officials Say

Officials are investigating whether a small plane that crashed into an office building in Austin, Texas, Thursday morning was an intentional act, an NTSB official told Fox News.

An NTSB spokesman, however, told FoxNews.com that “we can’t confirm any of that.”

Authorities said they have identified the pilot as Joseph Andrew Stack, a 53-year-old software engineer who lived in Texas. An Internal Revenue Service office is located inside the building.

IRS Agent William Winnie said he was on the third floor of the building when he saw a light-colored, single engine plane coming towards the building, TheStatesman.com reported.

“It looked like it was coming right in my window,” Winnie said, according to the Web site.

Winnie said the plane veered down and smashed into the lower floors. “I didn’t lose my footing, but it was enough to knock people who were sitting to the floor.” […]

MyFoxAustin.com reported earlier Thursday that Austin firefighters responded to a house fire at a home believed to be Stack’s. Firefighters reported that the entire house was engulfed in flames, including the fence, when they arrived on the scene.

UPDATE with Very Well Said TAM Comment. I think Thierry speaks for all of us.

this guy strikes me as a person whose self delusion and self absorption poisoned his mind to the point that he could justify murder- because its all about him. i have no sympathy . he couldn’t dodge paying taxes . he’s really pissed off he had to pay taxes unlike a religious institution. well, buddy join the club. you had a lifestyle most would envy and more options than poor and lower middle class people. sure the government is corrupt, the tax system overly unduly complicated and they go through our money like you know what through a goose. it’s unfair and its wrong. but so is the attempted murder of your family and killing people just because you don’t get what you want.

he needed psychiatric help more than he needed accountants capable of hiding portions of his income and manipulating the tax code. and some perspective. many people are hurting economically, losing their homes and jobs. they don’t have the opportunity to not report the income they get from giving piano lessons under the table in their nice warm homes on their nice new pianos. it seems lost on this guy that it is because of big socialized government that we have such high convoluted taxes. how about not voting for communists and socialists as a way to keep more of your money? it would be a lot more effective than arson and murder.

Online suicide note blames IRS, Bush, the Catholic Church, his accountant, and his wife. Anyone left?

This guy sounds like your typical left wing whack job but I’m sure he’ll be a Tea Partying right winger by the time the media is through.

  3. angelaisms says:

Yeah, they’ll probably scrub the part of the suicide note that quotes Marx and trashes capitalism.

I started out feeling sympathy for this guy, but as more facts rolled in my sympathy waned to the point of nonexistence. He set fire to his house while his wife and daughter were still inside — they were saved by a neighbor. He saw himself as a perpetual victim, and while he may have had a point, it was his sense of entitlement that drove him to believe that his financial pain excused inflicting physical pain and death on others. Again, this is my point of view, and you’re free to disagree with it if you like. I have loads of sympathy for his wife and daughter, and for the people who were hurt in his wanton act of selfishness, but for him? No, not really.

Hear! Hear! Excellent points! I felt the same way at the beginning, too. But, once he decided to hurt others because he’s hurting, he truly lost whatever sympathy he garnered.

By the way, here are the last two lines of his screed suicide letter:
“The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.”

Yeah, the Dinosaur Media must be livid that he’s not a “teabagger.”

Wow, I’m even surprising myself with conspiracy theory, but isn’t it a little convenient this happens just when the higher ups want to regulate the internet for “our safety.” They can now say, “Look how important it is to monitor online chat, just for cases like this.” I mean, what is one building in Texas (I don’t know if there were any casualties) to influence the biases of everyone (toward being okay with Big Brother’s monitoring)?

  5. trevy says:

What about all of those innocent people in that building trying to explain to the Intimidating Renegades Service why they forgot to carry a 1 and, thus, shorted them by 2 cents?

You can be yourself Tammy, on tv as you are on radio (even though I don’t want you to go over board &nd be too disrespectful) Just go on The Fox Red Eye Show!!!:)

  7. RADAR says:

This is what happens when you try to take the world on by yourself. He obviously had no one to console him or some one to rely on. No excuse for what he did. Just another pathetic situation in a long list. I personally owe more than I can pay to the IRS but I’d rather go to prison than do what he did.

  8. angelaisms says:

Body count is up to two.

    He is officially a murderer.
