As you might imagine, I felt the need to say a few things about NOW, their remarkable hypocrisy and the mainstreaming of “whore” as an acceptable adjective for women. Here’s a snippet, the entire piece is in Opinion at Fox News.

The ‘W’ Word Brings Fresh Hypocrisy to the California Governor’s Race

You know the phrase “a disaster waiting to happen?” For over a decade now I’ve been waiting and watching, knowing that the National Organization for Women would inevitably have a very public nervous breakdown brought on by the pressures of using women’s issues to further the misogynist leftist agenda.

The only questions were when it would happen and how public the collapse would be. I now have my answer–October 2010.

After years of slouching into obscurity, NOW finally got some attention last week, much like car wrecks do on the freeway. By now you all know the details–a week ago California NOW endorsed Jerry Brown for governor within 24 hours of him (or the obligatory “someone associated with him”) calling his opponent, Meg Whitman, a “whore.”

But that endorsement wasn’t sloppy or bizarre enough for California NOW president Patty Bellasalma. On Thursday, Bellasalma doubled down and told a reporter she thought Brown’s use of the word “whore” was a “poor choice,” but “the description was accurate.” […]

With that rather remarkable position, Bellasalma manages to expose the rank absurdity NOW has become. At the very least the dozen or so women who still support NOW have found out why they’re the only ones left in the room.

My first reaction was a jaw drop! Have now shared this FOX article with friends. Gotta protect those “bro”s from the uppity “ho”s.

    Excellent article, Tammy.

    BRAVO, Tammy!

You are able to provide an inside look into the organization and those still on board with NOW in a way that no one else in the conservative movement can. This organization has indeed betrayed the sisters they claim to represent. They are not interested in seeing women direct their own path or succeed; they are only interested in making other women as subserviant as they are to the radical left.

Thank God for you, Smart Girl Politics and Winning With Women for reviving the spirit of the first-wave feminists!

Because their principles are grounded in relativism based on some artificially defined cultural perspective, eventually every Liberal position collapses under hypocrisy.

You go girl, get after them. I think NOW had done incalculable damage to women. Go to any high school and see all the teenage girls dressed like actual “ho’s”, acting like casual sex has no consequence, generally doing their best to be the male fantasy pin-up; an object to be used and thrown aside like so much trash; using abortion as a form of birth control. I have seen patients who are unmarried young women on welfare (in their 20’s), 3 or 4 or 5 kids they neglected and/or abused, long series of abusive relationships with men, who also abused their children; coming in again and again after the loser beat them up; and 13 and 14 elective abortions. Pregnant 13 year olds, 12 year olds with sexually transmitted diseases, sexually active 11 year olds. 18 year old women with 4 children and 5 elective abortions. 26 year old grandmothers. Really, truly. No self-respect, no dignity, no self-esteem; no education, no hope, no future; junior high school dropouts, illiterate, never had a job in their entire life and not qualified to flip burgers at McDonald’s; trapped in poverty, a dead-end life. It’s such a complete waste, and 95% of the attempts at intervention to break the cycle with the various government social services a failure — which should not be a surprise to anyone here. Where there was a success, it was because of the something within the young woman, not because of the government program. NOW had a big hand in creating that despair, and I despise them for it.

    Hypocrisy, thy name is N.O.W.

Frailty, thy name is not Whitman.

There’s nothing new here. The OJ Simpson case, which happened while Tammy was president of the L.A. NOW, made the case clear. Nicole Simpson was murdered by a man with a history of brutalizing her. Nicole had anticipated this event; why else would she leave a photograph of her bruised face in her safe deposit box? But our society had treated the celebrity Simpson’s earlier acts of domestic violence with kid gloves, thus enabling his final offense and the subsequent travesty of justice. Obviously this high-profile situation would be of paramount importance to any organization that focused on real-world threats to women. Tammy reacted as a true feminist — and for this she was excoriated by the national NOW leadership, which was willing to let a woman’s killer go free for the sake of strengthening a racial constituency. This tells you everything you need to know about NOW. It would be surprising if anything had changed.

Thank you Maynard for being so thoughtful and putting the past in such clear perspective 🙂

Everything I need to know about NOW I learned during the O.J. trial. God Bless Tammy and keep her safe and prosperous in her work. We need you tammy, and we have your back.

I recently finished reading Tammy’s book “The New Thought Police” where she wrote about the OJ case. (GREAT book Tammy!) I was astounded when they told her to back off from OJ because he was a great role model for black kids. How hypocritical that an organization designed to elevate women and their issues would be so willing to sell them out. To send a message to women that you are important ONLY if there is not a more favored minority or a man’s political agenda to defend. This message of “a woman should know her place” is the very message they are supposed to be fighting against. Dr. Laura sums it up well…N.O.W is the National Organization of “I don’t know what kind” of Women.

Fantastic article Tammy, and thank you for being a person who lives by her principles and calls out others who do not.

it’s intersting you bring all this up because back while that trial was going on, i first saw tammy on the geraldo shows on msnbc or cnbc…or whatever it was…and i thought to myself..WOW…she’s the first person i’m seeing who sees this trial the same way i do & not getting all caught up in this phoney racial crap that was just used as a distraction to divert the attention away from the MASSIVE amounts of evidence they found against him..from that point on it was always in the back of my mind to find her (tammy)

Tammy, you have expertly exposed this bunch of harpies for who they really are. They don’t represent my values as an independent working woman and they never have. Thanks.

  10. Carol says:

I love Tammy’s writing. It’s all I knew of you for many years before discovering radio show on the internet. I hate to admit I don’t remember you from the O.J. trial. The only criticism is the use of a Barama BS Bingo phrase, “make no mistake”. It’s a useful expression that now makes me cringe thanks to the dumb bastard. It’s frustrating that just words can have such an effect. Please help me overcome this debilitating affliction…
