This is the photograph I discuss in the “Palin Report,” from a rally last year in Idaho, and used by the NY Times in a piece from yesterday about Iowa. Every picture used sends a specific message. The media never use serious shots of Governor Palin because they loathe the notion of reinforcing the fact that she is a serious person. Normally, you see the same picture when she is caught at an illustrative moment during a speech, so I was surprised to see this pic used which conveys her more serious nature (and re the unique shirt also discussed in comments–her luggage was lost and it was borrowed from someone at the event). Yes, she’s demonstrative during speeches, but she’s also a focused, serious woman and a determined politician. The media will have to face that whether they like it or not.

I can see what you’re saying that this shot shows Palin looking serious in her demeanor, but maybe the reason this photo was chosen was the apparent contradictions in her look and the scene that might make her seem quirky instead of serious to voters. Like you were saying, photos carry messages. With this one I imagine the message might be: “Is she for real? Look at that tie dye! WTF.” I’m not saying I mind seeing her in a tie dye. I think it’s an interesting photo, and shows a casual, beautiful side to her, but for the people who don’t know her that well, this might raise an eyebrow if they think of her as a potential contender.

I think she looks great! She is one of those very rare women who would look good in a potato sack, or in anything she wore. This persons inner light just shines through to make anything she wore look elegant. It’s just too bad that many people can’t look beyond the physical and see the true entity inside.

I think she looks very feminine, yet powerful. Nice combo. I agree. It’s what’s inside that counts. I’ve heard it said several times before that most people are shallow. So all they see is the surface stuff, and they don’t like contradictions in what they see. It activates their “laugh or gag” response.

She wore this shirt because the commercial airliner she flew on lost her luggage. I remember her saying that during that speech.

I was wondering about the shirt choice, but I still think her demeanor in this picture eclipses that. Nice reminder, though about the circumstances surrounding the, er, wardrobe issue LOL!

I love Dr. Laura for saying it out loud to Sean’s huge audience! That tickled me to death! 🙂

Dana Milbank, David Frum, Michael Medved, among others, want Sarah Palin to simply “go away.” For whatever reason. And yet, it is because of the scathing treatment she has received at the hands of the Left and survived it all, that she should not “go away.”

Like Mittens, T-Paw, Huckleberry, Guiliani, et. al., could withstand what “that uppity girl” has already survived, for G-d’s sakes!
