Women’s boxing will be part of the 2012 Olympics, an Olympic first. The Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) would like the ladies to wear skirts in the ring.

The AIBA thinks wearing skirts will help distinguish female boxers from male boxers.

Female boxers fight skirts ahead of Olympics

AIBA has suggested that wearing skirts would help women stand out from the men. Female boxers from Poland and Romania donned skirts at last month’s European Championships in the Netherlands.

I know there have been gender scandals in Olympic games but this is ridiculous. Has the AIBA made any recommendations about wearing tops? With or without would be another way to help the audience distinguish between male and female boxers.

Reminds me of “a league of their own”. Permit me to say, I enjoy women with or with out skirts. Also, I have learned over time to identify most women even if they wear pants.
    Go Tammy!

    Thanks

(Sarcasm starts here) “Thank G-d, the AIBA will require women to wear skirts so that we can tell them apart from men. There are so few ways to distinguish women from men without a loop of cloth hanging from a woman’s waist.” (end sarcasm) C’mon – Where do these international governing federations come up with all of these ridiculous rules? Who sits on these committees? Sheesh….

Anytime they “feminize a sport” it’s a reaction to what is not being said… in most cases it’s about the fear of being labeled a lesbian.. Gasp!
They play to the stereotypes…Lesbians don’t wear skirts so if you wear a skirt, you are not a lesbian… Same goes for when they “pink” things that are traditionally considered masculine…

In field hockey, I’m assuming the skirt is traditional. I don’t think that’s why they want them in boxing.

decisions, decisions like whether women should wrestle in jello or pudding… oh wait not that kind of wrestling…

as i recall several years ago the kick boxing champion in thailand -Parinya Jaroenphon- was a transgender woman(fighting with genetic males). she wore pink shorts, make up and kicked the butst of many boys wearing traditional manly not pink shorts.

perhaps the ever popular skort could be the compromise. or better yet decide people who opt to watch women’s sports know that that means women competing in sports no matter what they are wearing. or perhaps they should also wear high heel pumps instead of boxing sneakers to further stem any confusion.

NOW should be making a statement about this in 3… 2… 1…. naw, just kidding they only care about “inequalities” against socialist ideas.
