Virginia’ Republican Governor Bob McDonnell’s decision to raise taxes on Virginians hundreds of millions of dollars alarms not only the people of that great state, but conservatives everywhere. Many lament that McDonnell’s decision indicates a capitulation of the GOP to the craven policies of the left. Jamie not only unpacks what this means for the country, but also has good news for those of us who hope that there are still Republicans out there who represent the Reagan Legacy. Hope you enjoy it 🙂 For more information about Jamie, follow her on Twitter.

Conservatives are mistaken to think that favoring business is an automatic identifier of conservatism. The Republican establishment favors business for its own sake. It is not based on any philosophical principles.

Taxes on individuals are increased to offset decreases in business taxes. The business lobby wants improved roads so the people pay more taxes to improve them. Never mind road maintenance is actually one of the basic things government is expected to do and should be among the first use of existing tax revenues.

Conservatives have been snookered by business interests for decades. Conservatives are for free enterprise. That’s not the same as business interests controlling government taxing and spending policies to facilitate profit making.
