California Father-Daughter Dance Renamed ‘The Family Dance’
by naga5 on March 13, 2017**Bumped Up From TAM Wire. Posted by naga5** Crocker/Riverside Elementary School will be eliminating their PTA sponsored Father-Daughter Dance and changing it to a Family Dance. This caught my attention, but not for the reason one might imagine. I attended Riverside School. Back in the Sixties, the neighborhood was very mixed. The neighborhood houses were built in the 1930s and housed a fair number of Asian families at that time. Consequently, the ethnic makeup of the school was actually quite diverse. Over the decades, the neighborhood gentrified. My mom finally moved out last year and she was probably the last one of the families I grew up with to leave. The place is now populated by families in their first...

Helen Mirren: A Lone Voice in Hollywood Supports Israel
by naga5 on June 23, 2016**Bumped Up From TAM Wire. Posted By naga5** Helen Mirren is not the only voice in Hollywood to publicly support Israel, but I am quite certain that being vocally pro-Israel can be a career killer in tinsel town. Via Townhall. Helen Mirren expressed her support of the Jewish state and denounced the movement to boycott it. Mirren is in Jerusalem to award the Genesis Prize, considered the “Jewish Nobel,” to Israeli-American violinist Itzhak Perlman. The prize honors world-renowned artists with a “dedication” to Israel. Speaking to press Monday, Mirren talked about her disdain for the pro-Palestinian movement to boycott, divest, and sanction all Jewish products and businesses—something many Hollywood stars have embraced wholeheartedly…. Mirren has a long history of supporting...

Paying Respects To Nancy Reagan: Distinguishing Between Loss and Gain
by naga5 on March 11, 2016**Bumped Up From TAM Wire. Posted By naga5** My co-workers and I decided to go to the Reagan Library for Nancy Reagan’s viewing after work. As fate would have it, my last patient cancelled and we drove to the shuttle pick up parking area. What a remarkable cross section of America that stood in line with us. In front of us, there was a Hispanic family. They kept to themselves, keeping the two girls entertained as they patiently waited for the line to move. Behind us were some new local residents to Simi Valley who were originally from Chicago. One woman said she waited in line for five hours for President Reagan’s viewing but they had buses running every five...

California Measure SCA 5: “Forget Merit, Let’s Bring Back Quotas”
by naga5 on April 1, 2014**Bumped Up From TAM Wire. Posted By naga5** After trying to right a wrong by banning Affirmative Action via Prop 209 in 1996, California Libs are trying to wrong that correction by introducing SBA 5. It reintroduces race as a criteria for college admission. The Asian community is up in arms because they stand to lose admission spots in the UC system to less qualified applicants based on race not on academic merit. Racism does truly live on the left. Why Asians would continue to support and vote for liberal policies is beyond me. But I do have a funny Asian college joke. Do you know what UCI stands for? University of Chinese Immigrants. Too soon? On Internment: Happy 70th Birthday, Korematsu v. United States?
by naga5 on February 11, 2014**Bumped Up From TAM Wire. Posted By naga5** I saw this article on HotAir and it fell from interest, so I am bringing it up again. The Supreme Court upheld that Fred Korematsu violated an Executive order that gave the military authority to force Japanese Americans to leave their homes and report to an internment camp. He refused and was arrested. The majority held that wars cause hardships and arresting citizens because of race is part of the hardship. In retrospect, the violation of due process, habeas corpus and the Court’s own violation of “strict scrutiny” should allow the Supreme Court to strike this down and Justice Scalia seems to agree. He strikes an ominous note by warning us that...

The ‘Mamma-san” State, Now Coming To a California Sushi Bar Near You!
by naga5 on January 30, 2014**Bumped Up From TAM Wire. Posted By naga5** Well, “Mamma-san” state was as close as a translation to a nanny state as I could muster quickly. Being Japanese, I love me my sushi. I taught my kids and friends to love it too. Every New Year’s Day, we love to invite friends over, not just eat sushi, but have fun making sushi. I will spring for the fish and everyone gets to have fun being sushi chef. They get to make whatever they want-classic sushi, cut rolls or hand rolls. It is their opportunity to participate and enjoy the art that sushi. The smell, the textures and the flavor of an original, once in the moment creation of food is...
