Big VAT Greek Meddling

To get economic relief, Greece has raised its VAT (value added tax) from 13% to 23% for a number (many?) of products & services. Hurts both poor and small business which lose customers who can't afford to pay another 10%. Why socialists like VATs, increases can be imposed by outside pressure and can not easily be non-complied with like income tax.
