Florida approves academic standards that are almost wholly racially based

Florida's Board of Eduction passes new math and reading goals that literally fall back on every racial stereotype in the book.

By 2018, 90 percent of Asian students will be expected to read at or above grade level, with white students close behind at 88 percent.

Trailing behind in requested reading level are Hispanics at 81 percent and black students at 74.

Similar percentages are expected for math comprehension.

Without knowing the background specifics, my guess is that this is to coverup reality. Need to know what happens when goals aren’t met. Do teachers get reassigned? If yes, then you don’t want to penalize good teachers who are in a poorer quality eduction district. But the answer to that, is to change the penalty.

My guess; this has to do with placing schools on the ‘bad performing’ list. If the goal is the same for all students, then you would expect some ‘bad school list’ correlation with poorer minority areas while few, if any, rich white school districts would be on the list. By having different goals, you could get a ‘bad school’ list that includes schools in affluent areas as well. The Fla. Board of Education can then say, poor schooling is across the board. More money is needed everywhere. More, more, more…

Alain – good point. Yes of course more and more and Mo’ Money had to have been involved with this. I have to give a hat tip to Randy from my political discussion group on Facebook for finding this item.

Here was my comments immediately upon reading this:
“Wow, I have read this and WOW, what crap! This blatently caters to every stereotype in the book. So they request that Asian students excel at the highest percentage (even higher than Caucasion students) and meanwhile black students have the lowest level of expected percentage. JUST WOW!! Quite repulsive! So they’re essentially saying, “Yes, you poor black and Latino students who are less capable of passing basic requirements because you were presumably born into more poverty and less repsonible parents, we will just lower the bar to your diminished level compared to other races”. Again just WOW!”

Close family members also tell me that when too many minority students were suspended, expelled, or anything else, a halt was called to their disciplinary measures. Teachers can only act on behavior problems if students are a certain color. And students know it.
