How Government Killed the Medical Profession

Such an eloquent treatise on how governmental intrusion into the affairs of those who care for our health has, in all likelihood, irreversibly killed the medical profession. It's done the same to allied health professions too.
Note the title reads how government KILLED the medical profession, not IS KILLING it. A telling statement in the opinion piece recounts the pleas of the author's partners for him to keep silent and not go on the record publicly for fear of retribution from CMS and other 3rd party payers. This takeover of health care by the bureaucrats makes one wonder who will be taking care of us and our children a decade from now.

  1. Colette says:

This is an excellent essay. I was a Coder for 34 years, from 1987 until I retired last year. This is the chronology
of my working life as well. As an acute care hospital coder, I was in every meeting, regulatory lecture, audit and government
scolding. We knew we could be fined, or worse, jailed for “Up-coding” any patients chart, so despite what the Dr. may say, we
as the coders were not going to take that chance, unless you were stupid. The future of our health CARE is definetly in peril.
