Groundbreaking on Mauna Kea for the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) was in Oct. 2014. There have been protests against building TMT because Mauna Kea is sacred ground and has 13 telescopes on it already. Hawaii's Governor halted construction in April and it has not restarted yet.
