I wrestled some in high school. I was not that athletic and I was bad. The coach however was great. He was an undefeated amateur who had won a Eurasian title and was an alternate for U.S. Olympic squad, so he instilled love for the sport and I followed it along with my brother. When I heard that the IOC was proposing kicking wrestling out of the Olympics, my immediate thought was, Iran will not like that. Wrestling is very big in Iran, Iraq, Georgia, Kazakhstan … that whole area. So it really is not a surprise that Iranian wrestlers would work with U.S. to try and turn around IOC proposal.
