Israel's incursion into Gaza was necessary to destroy the growing network of tunnels, by which Hamas militants sneak across the border to murder and kidnap Israelis. The tunnels are dug deep and quietly, which is why they've gone undetected, and why they couldn't be located and destroyed without a messy, bloody invasion. A new system that could detect the construction of terror tunnels would make it harder for Hamas to start wars.
