Maynard notes another Amazon absurdity

For those who wish to be calorically challenged, try four pounds of exquisite Russian Beluga caviar for a mere $10,560 (marked down from the usual price of $14,784, which means buying this is like putting $4,224 in the bank). Although caviar is a rather rich food (and not just because of the ten thousand dollars!), the chances are you’ll gorge yourself and run out of money and end up starving; hence the recommendation for dieters.

On a personal note, Maynard had always wondered what this mysterious “caviar” stuff might be, or why people got excited about it. He finally tried some and found it tasted like fish eggs.

As usual, check out the lunatic Customer Review comments.

(By the way, note that the most valuable caviar comes out of the Caspian Sea, which is harvested by Russia or maybe Iran. These are not places I want to send my dollars these days. Personally, I can’t see how a mouthful of anything could possibly be worth hundreds of dollars. (If you read that article, note that a “kilo” (kilogram) is about 2.2 pounds.))

It’s seems like a sales strategy. If you see the $10,000 caviar portion, it gives the impression that the $166 portion is a “smart” bargain.

Was it Barnum & Bailey who said there’s a caviar eater born every minute?

All those people eating caviar from a tin. How boorish. If you’re going to eat caviar you must have one of these.
