Where's George?

A (time-wasting?) diversion by Maynard

Deep thinkers may occasionally ponder the migratory habits of paper money. It moves from hand to hand and pocket to pocket. But where exactly does it go? The Where’s George project can tell us!

Devoted participants write or stamp a link to WheresGeorge.com on their money. Then they enter the serial numbers into the website database and spend the bills. Supporters notice these marked bills as they pass through their hands, and tag them in the database. And thus we learn what our money is really up to.

So if you catch sight of a designated bill, go to the website and play along. You’ll make some insane fanatic’s day.

Read more about the game at WheresGeorge.com, or check out the Wikipedia description. There’s also a Canadian variant called Where’s Willy.

  1. I’ve been a WG member for about 3 years, off and on (my WG profile). I’ll often enter a bunch of bills in one afternoon and then slowly disperse them. My ‘greatest hit’ was a bill I tagged in Pennsylvania that was re-entered into the database from a person in Ireland.
