The Panchen Lama

A post by Maynard

The picture above is a rare photo of Gedhun Choekyi Niyama, a Tibetan 5-year-old child who was abducted with his family in 1995 by the Chinese government, and none have been seen since. The boy’s crime was that of being identified by the Dalai Lama as the Panchen Lama, a religious reincarnation. The boy and his parents were immediately arrested, and the Chinese authorities decreed a child from a reliable Communist family to be the new Lama in his place. Nothing has changed during the subsequent 12 years.

Tammy has lately given focus to China, and this story portrays a clear picture of the kind of government we’re dealing with. The Chinese seized Tibet in 1959, and have controlled it with an iron fist ever since.

To read the tale of the young Lama in greater detail, go to this article. It includes a concise description of Tibetan history and culture.

As a practical matter, America is currently running a huge trade deficit with China, and China holds something like a trillion dollars (!) in American reserves. Politicians may talk tough on China, but out of concern for potential major economic disruptions, nobody in power wants to rock the boat.

Tibet…Free Tibet. Mark Steyn says it best, what are you doing to free Tibet? If Bush ordered the Army to “Free Tibet” all the moonbats would go nuts.

Visit China for yourself to see real capitalism!

If Niyama is still alive, the Chicoms must be afraid of some really terrible consequences if they were to kill him. Strange behavior for a bunch of atheists.
