You know, if we just banned meat cleavers, and paper bags, and other knives, and crazy people, this would never have happened. Or, of course, we could make sure law-abiding citizens, like the victim and her attempted rescuer, have guns which very well could have stopped this carnage, and the killer, who is still at-large.

Man Sought In Psychologist’s Meat Cleaver Death

Residents on the Upper East Side are trying to cope with the shocking news of Tuesday night’s horrific and fatal attack of 56-year-old psychologist Kathryn Faughey, who police say was hacked to death with a meat cleaver inside an office building on E. 79th Street and York Avenue shortly after 9 p.m.

Police say that around 8 p.m. Tuesday night, the assailant told the doorman he wanted to see psychiatrist Dr. Kent Shinbach, and received permission to enter the premises. He then proceeded to the waiting room where it is believed he sat and waited for up to an hour.

A few minutes before 9 p.m., according to police, Shinbach heard a commotion. He followed the uproar into Dr. Faughey’s office.

Shinbach then attempted to assist Faughey during the attack, in which he suffered serious cuts to his face. He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill/Cornell, and is currently in serious, but stable condition.

We need a 30-day “cooling off” period when people try to buy meat cleavers and paper bags. We also need extensive FBI background checks to weed out the mentally unstable who try to buy these deadly items that have no place in decent society.

But Republicans, who are in the pockets of the meat clever lobby and the paper bag lobby, will block efforts to enact sensible meat clever-control and paper bag-control laws the vast majority of Americans want and demand.

Perhaps adopting a long term socialist stealth plan would ultimately be more effective control. If we sneak legislation through in the dark night, we can criminalize the sharpening and sale of sharpening tools. Then, in about 20 or 30 years all of the cleavers will be dull and useless and we will have a new dedicated de-educated class of North American Union citizens who will wonder why anyone would want a cleaver in the first place!
