I heard during the news break that the USS Bainbridge was standing nearby the hostage situation.
That name sounded familiar to me, so I looked it up and found this on Wiki…. It was exactly what I remembered:

As President of the U.S. he has a sworn duty to protect its citizens from things like this. I hope the Captain’s family was watching that – that’s what Americans mean to TOTUS – ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
If it had been a REAL President, a press conference would have been held and it would have been stated in no uncertain terms that the Captain be released or face the consequences.
At least that’s how I would handle it. If you give in, even just a little, you have opened the door for them to keep doing it over and over again.

The very least Obambi could have done: #1 acknowledge the captain; #2 ask for thoughts and prayers for the captain and his family.

My son was a Division 1 collegiate pitcher, and showing promise as a freshman… until his third outing, when a torn rotator cuff effectively ended his baseball aspirations.
I know how much talent you need to rise to the level of this kid… at 22 years old, the same age as my son. That he just pitched 6 scoreless innings in the majors is very, very special.
What a tragedy for his family and friends.
I have the obvious answer to the hostage crisis.
They are adrift without power, surrounded by the US Navy.
Stand off about a half mile out, and pump two to three .50 caliber Barrett rounds through the hull, taking care not to hit anyone. Watch the lifeboat sink in shark-infested waters, then cruise in and pick up our Captain. It’s that simple.
Then wave “sayonara” to the terrorist pirates, and wish them a long swim to shore ( not really ).
End of hostage crisis.

On a side note, I hope all this will give the Navy some strategic ammo to argue for more ships.
After Vietnam and in the early 80s I believe the goal was to build a 600 ship force (total, including all types), because 300 was too few.
Now we’re less than 300! I think closer to 200.
