As Sleeps-with-a-Kennedy-every-night Schwarzeneggar noted, the Tea Party Movement is “not going anywhere”. Oh, except international 🙂 This is nice to know on this side of the pond as our cousins on the other side have been dealing with socialist despotism for far too long. The only reason the British government hasn’t collapsed at this point is because of Margaret Thatcher‘s economic reforms. The good people in England now ready to fight no doubt know they owe this extra time to Lady Thatcher.

British Tea Party Movement to launch on Saturday

The inaugural British Tea Party will take place on Saturday in my home town of Brighton, and I’ll be speaking. Do try to come: here are the details.

Labour has raised more than a trillion pounds in additional taxation since 1997. Yet, unbelievably, Gordon Brown has still managed to run up a deficit of 12.6 per cent of GDP (Greece’s is 12.7 per cent). A far lower level of taxation brought Americans out in spontaneous protest last year.

If you happen to be coming to the Conservative Spring Conference, do please pop in: the Tea Party is five minutes’ walk from the conference venue. It is, however, outside the security zone, and anyone is welcome to come. Oh, and this being England, we’ll be serving actual, you know, tea. I hope to see some of this blog’s readers there.

Daniel Hannan is awesome. He’s one of the good UK conservative guys in the Thatcher mold.

Other than Lady Thatcher, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones, what has Great Britain contributed to world civilization since the end of World War II? Just curious.:)

I wonder if Tea Partiers over there will receive booklets like us!?

“It’s an anti-government…I mean that’s the Tea Party. They really are, um, are, uh, trying to rebel against government at all. And I think that that’s…again it’s an extreme. It’s always easier to scare people and get them angry when they’re already scared…and I think that’s what the Tea Party is trying to capture.”

Arnold narrated the mini-series (1980’s) Free To Choose, based on the Milton Friedman book…did he not? I know he sleeps with a Kennedy, but what in the Sam Hell happened? Perhaps theres a Kennedy Virus, thats contagious after repeated contact. I don’t know. Any theories?

We invoke the spirit of Edmund Burke and wish our British Brother’s much success in breaking the chains of tyranny that we once suffered. In 1775 Burke said the following in a speech in Parliament.

…the people of the colonies are descendants of Englishmen…They are therefore not only devoted to liberty, but to liberty according to English ideas and on English principles. The people are Protestants…a persuasion not only favourable to liberty, but built upon it…My hold of the colonies is in the close affection which grows from common names, from kindred blood, from similar privileges, and equal protection. These are ties which, though light as air, are as strong as links of iron. Let the colonies always keep the idea of their civil rights associated with your government,-they will cling and grapple to you, and no force under heaven will be of power to tear them from their allegiance. But let it be once understood that your government may be one thing and their privileges another, that these two things may exist without any mutual relation,-the cement is gone, the cohesion is loosened, and everything hastens to decay and dissolution. As long as you have the wisdom to keep the sovereign authority of this country as the sanctuary of liberty, the sacred temple consecrated to our common faith, wherever the chosen race and sons of England worship freedom, they will turn their faces towards you. The more they multiply, the more friends you will have; the more ardently they love liberty, the more perfect will be their obedience. Slavery they can have anywhere. It is a weed that grows in every soil. They may have it from Spain, they may have it from Prussia. But, until you become lost to all feeling of your true interest and your natural dignity, freedom they can have from none but you.
