The Tiki Room pioneered audio-animatronics. We take this for granted today, but it was amazing stuff in 1963. FWIW, the surviving “parrot” is Wally Hoag.

LOL, I grew up near Orlando and loved the enchanted tiki room tropical serenade in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. I think they screwed it up by replacing it with something new (as they have with a lot of other stuff, that’s why I don’t plan on ever going again).

Thanks for the Tiki Room intro to the show. You transported me back many years…when I was 11 and we first went to Disneyland. Actually I was 13 but having a bit of an identity crisis. I was “too old” for some of the fun things my sister and brother were doing and “too young” for all the really good stuff. So I officially changed my age to 11…calculated out my new birth year…and when we went and got our official Mickey Mouse Club membership cards, I lied about my age. I still have the card.

Well now I’m not too young or too old for anything. After listening to The Third Hour, I went over to YouTube and watched the entire “Swamp Fox” series. In part, an homage to Leslie Nielsen. 🙂

Our parents never seemed to mind taking us to the Tiki Room. I think it was because it was the only place they felt a semblance of peace, quiet and adult sanity. Also the drinks (sans alcohol I’m pretty sure) were delish!
