Your History Fix
by Tammy on January 19, 2011Caligula’s tomb found after police arrest man trying to smuggle statue The lost tomb of Caligula has been found, according to Italian police, after the arrest of a man trying to smuggle abroad a statue of the notorious Roman emperor recovered from the site. After reportedly sleeping with his sisters, killing for pleasure and seeking to appoint his horse a consul during his rule from AD37 to 41, Caligula was described by contemporaries as insane. With many of Caligula’s monuments destroyed after he was killed by his Praetorian guard at 28, archaeologists are eager to excavate for his remains…The statue is estimated to be worth €1m. Its rare Greek marble, throne and god’s robes convinced the police it came from...

Maynard’s Movie Roundup
by Maynard on January 19, 2011Maynard posts his movie notes Here’s what I saw over the holiday. First, we have the Coen brothers‘ presentation of True Grit. The Coens are my favorite filmmakers. They aspire to remind us of our American and spiritual heritage. Their movies are entertaining and uplifting. My favorite Coen films are “Fargo”, “Raising Arizona”, “No Country for Old Men”, and “A Serious Man”. Those are, in my eyes, sublime. “True Grit” was merely excellent. Here are the thoughts of other reviewers. Then there was The King’s Speech, a historical drama based upon the personal struggle of England’s King George VI, prior to ascending to the throne, to deal with a debilitating stutter. These were in the tense days before the Second...

Today’s Tammy Radio Podcast Has Posted
by Tammy on January 18, 2011Moonbattery: Father of Our Country Boxed Away Remember when a symbol representing the name of Jesus Christ had to be covered so that Comrade Obama could speak at Catholic Georgetown? Something similar happened yesterday during the MLK festivities. Via Free North Carolina: The annual MLK observance at the state house in Columbia SC had an interesting twist this year. The event is held on the north side steps of the statehouse. Prominent at that location is a large bronze statue of George Washington. This year, the NAACP constructed a “box” to conceal the Father of His Country from view so that participants would not be offended by his presence. Please visit the TAM Podcasts page for your exclusive media 🙂...

A Week of Media Malpractice Comes to an Unhappy End
by Tammy on January 18, 2011Actually a bit more than a week, but the title to this post is actually the subtitle to an excellent piece by John Hayward over at Human Events. It’s a great commentary regarding the hideous behavior of the LSM in its “coverage” of the Tucson shootings including the threat made this weekend by Eric Fuller. I have a snippet here but please do read the whole thing. The Great Disqualification A week of media malpractice comes to an unhappy end. The media created its “Climate of Hate” narrative out of nothing. They didn’t just leap to a few hasty conclusions in the hours after the shooting, then back down and apologize to Palin or the Tea Party for slandering them....

Political Bite Is Worse Than Political Bark
by Pat_S on January 16, 2011A post by Pat Oh dear, is that the growl of political incivility we hear again? It’s happening between Venezuela and Colombia so Sarah Palin is in the clear. Her critics can’t blame her without admitting she knows where these places are. We are all to feel chastised about volatile rhetoric because a terrible tragedy which had nothing to do with volatile rhetoric made the media hysterical about volatile rhetoric. It may be instructive to see how the problem is handled elsewhere. A Colombian T.V. soap opera depicts the relationship between two sisters, one named Colombia, the other named Venezuela. Venezuela is rather badly behaved. She has a dog named Little Hugo which also behaves badly. Some people allege the...
