Verdict: Ex-Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky guilty of 45 of 48 sex abuse counts

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky has been convicted of 45 counts at his child sex abuse trial.

Jurors announced the verdict Friday night after weighing 48 charges accusing him of abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period.

The panel had listened to seven days of testimony, including from eight young men who said they were his victims. Jurors also heard about two other alleged victims through other witnesses.

Sandusky didn’t take the stand.

The defense case had consisted largely of character witnesses who defended Sandusky’s reputation, a psychologist who said Sandusky had a personality disorder and the ex-coach’s wife, who said her husband didn’t do anything inappropriate.

His lawyers also suggested the accusers had a financial motive to make up stories and that investigators coached witnesses.

Earlier in the evening, Sandusky’s lawyer said he would be shocked and “die of a heart attack” if the former Penn State assistant football coach were acquitted on all counts in his child sex abuse trial.

When he dies, very likely he’ll not pass go and go straight to Hell. May God have mercy

That Jerry Sandusky could have lived this long without being caught is a national shame, but at least he will now die in jail. I take a great deal of satisfaction in that fact, but his victims will never outlive the pain that monster caused them.

Now, prosecutors need to go after those who enabled him, or looked the other way when confronted with accusations of child rape.

Sandusky is not the only guilty one here.

I hope that now the families of these victims will sue the University, and we will find that the administration was aware of these horrendous acts and that others will see jail time. Papa Joe took the easy way out. He is just as much to blame.

I was hoping for a Law & Order moment where Sandusky grabbed the guys gun and finished the job but then he’s too big of a coward to do that.

I guess you should feel happy after this but I’m not. Yes, this guy is a pos and shouldn’t be walking around upright and he’s going to prison but this is way too late. They know this has been going on for 15 years but we all know that this sickness doesn’t start after age 50. The number of people that could have done something to prevent this and did nothing is almost as sickening as the acts themselves. Hopefully all this publicity will do something to help all those victims in everyday life – ones that aren’t associated with a famous coach or actor or someone like that. Hopefully the courage of those that came forward will help others to be strong and to stand up for themselves and to realize that they have done nothing wrong. These sick bastards prey on those that are maybe a bit weak and not in a position to defens themselves against what is many times a person they trust and admire. I wish I could wave a wand and throw some magic dust and make this all go away.

I’d like to see Sandusky’s sentence have him forced to work border security under Eric Holder.

Now the only question is gen pop vs life in solitary.

PS: his son & grandkids are safe now.

Why did they handcuff his hands in front of him? I can’t wait for KARMA to pay him a visit in jail! I hope those kids take all their money, its all disgusting….

Child molestation should be a capital offense. The death penalty is commensurate with the harm it causes. Roll on 2!!!

I hope they throw him in the general population in prison and see how he likes it!!!

Sandusky’s wife said she knew nothing about this. She is a liar. I have been married almost 28 years. And I know what is going on in our house. And my husband is not raping/molesting little boys.

He will live in misery and isolation for the rest of his natural life. That will not bring back the innocence and souls that he wrecked and robbed, but at least now he can be living in a scintilla portion of the complete misery and havoc that he wrought on all those innocent children.

Now that this is resolved, anyone that covered for him should be prosecuted.

Unless this crime has happened to you, no one understands how much this devastates your childhood.Personally speaking, it is something that stays with you all through your life. You may be all grown up, have grown up friends and a grown up job, making grown up decisions, but inside, you still feel like you are 10 and just going through life’s motions.God may have great plans for you but you find yourself purposely taking other routes, leading to “that road less travelled” and it definitely makes all the difference.Because you couldnt speak up,you find that the only way to express yourself is on paper.Because verbally, you usually sound like Billy Budd after he was unjustly accused, sputtering nonsense. So you are quiet or a comedian, hiding mistrust and never really knowing what a normal life would have been like. I pray the survivors are able to take God’s hand and do the best that they know how to do.Sandusky reminds me of a line in Hamlet, “That one may smile and smile and be a villain.”

Postnote: I neglected to mention the guilt that is carried with you when you realize years later that someone else may have suffered and you couldnt protect them. When your mother’s beloved brother is welcomed at all the family functions as if he is the star guest, you cant imagine yourself pointing out the imposter. Now that they both are in the grave,my mother now knows the truth and I beg God to forgive him as I have.

For anyone who may be living with the spiritual and emotional anguish of sexual abuse, as midget has shared (thank you and God bless you, midget), in addition to finding a good counselor, I would like to recommend a website called “From the Inside Out”, which has links to many helpful resources. The site is hard to find, so if I may share the URL, here it is:

i just turned 55 yrs old…i have seen over the years, many if not most women, myself included, have endured some kind of violation by men… whether it is fully abuse, or attitudes, looks…lines crossed by family members, neighbors, other Dads, God forbid our own Dads… it’s simply enraging to be so helpless (part of the reason women need protection… we don’t have or fully understand this drive in men, because we don’t have it)… it helps to see this monster get locked up and key thrown away. my feeling is, a quick death is unfair… he should be made to sit in isolation for years… no books, no tv, no letters, no human contact… except maybe boyfriends in prison, but hey, what if he likes that?

as for his wife. at minimum she didn’t have normal marriage with him. a man interested in little boys isn’t going to also be interested in a woman. she was his cover. she would have been keenly aware of his neglect of her … and seen his sick interest in little boys, absolutely no way did she not see THAT…. there’s simply no way he was normal with her… i’m guessing sooner or later her anger will get the better of her and she’ll out with the truth on him. worse tho — the fact that she laughed with him at the witness table as tammy mentioned, suggests she was in on it, imho.

The Focus on the Family radio shows of 6/20 and 6/21 have Michael Reagan (adopted son of Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman) speaking of how he had been molested in his youth by a third party (his parents didn’t know and he was afraid to tell them), and the traumatic turn this gave his subsequent life. Audio is available here.

Off-topic comment: The SCOTUS decision on Obamacare will be announced shortly. One possible scenario is this: If Obamacare is largely or completely struck down, there may follow a jolt of economic euphoria. Maybe a stock rise, a sense of confidence, whatever. If something like this happens, it will certainly give Romney’s election a sense of inevitability. The mood will be that it’s now generally understood that Obama has been an impediment to recovery, and now we’re nearing the end of our nightmare. Of course, Obama will try to spin it the other way: “Look, we’re finally arriving, thanks to me.” But nobody will believe it.

I wouldn’t take any of the foregoing too seriously, in that recovery will take a lot of real work, and moods quickly change. But, depending upon how this plays out, Romney could come out of the coming week with the wind at his back.

For people who may think that Sandusky’s actions were harmless, wrestling fun,in New York States penal code section 288A, merely inappropriate touching of a child aged 14 and under is a FELONY.
