Weird. I don’t think I’ll be losing any sleep over this. Go figure.
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, in a statement to Mediaite Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways.
Here’s the statement to Mediaite, from Martin Bashir, via email:
After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday.Upon further reflection, and after meeting with the President of MSNBC, I have tendered my resignation. It is my sincere hope that all of my colleagues, at this special network, will be allowed to focus on the issues that matter without the distraction of myself or my ill-judged comments.
I deeply regret what was said, will endeavor to work hard at making constructive contributions in the future and will always have a deep appreciation for our viewers – who are the smartest, most compassionate and discerning of all television audiences. I would also wish to express deepest gratitude to my immediate colleagues, and our contributors, all of whom have given so much of themselves to our broadcast.’
I’m not surprised. I haven’t liked this guy since he made Princess Diana uncomfortable in her interview.
Excellent reminder Midget!
And Michael Jackson. Who will he go after next, Richard Simmons?
Sounds like a sociopath – feel bad because they are ”caught”…
And isn’t this the same Dork who did the up-close-and-personal interviews with Michael Jackson, at his Neverland Ranch, some years back. He didn’t appear to be the brightest bulb on the tree back then, so I’m not surprised to find that his “driveway still doesn’t make it all the way to the street”.
Very well put. 🙂
Tammy, I’d do the Mexican hat dance at this guy’s leaving, if I had a Mexican hat and knew how to dance. 🙂
I’m sure there is a job waiting for him at Al Jazeera whenever he wants it.
CNN will probably hire Bashir to replace Piers Morgan once he wears out his welcome on that network.
“Apology” not accepted. Resignation accepted, but since it was scripted ahead of time, if everyone else involved isn’t fired, then they’re just dumping him under the bus so they can make it appear like they did something about it.
The problem isn’t Martin Bashir in the first place, it’s the toxic environment at MSNBC where they thought they could get away with it because Sarah Palin is an acceptable target.
I am sure he didn’t resign, he was fired. I wouldn’t think MSNBC had that much concern about this, but they did this one right.
I hope he never gets the opportunity to regurgitate his vile hatred on broadcast TV ever again, no matter the network. He is trash, like too many others out there.
Carney replacement.
