romney

The general sense is that he’s going to warn all of us about the dangers of Donald Trump. I understand his concern but this is the guy who didn’t enter the 2016 race because Jeb! was inevitable. Governor Romney was right about everything in 2012, foreign policy, domestic policy and he and wife are as dignified as they come. The Netflix documentary “Mitt” highlighted the man and his family in a casual way that brought home how fabulous they are.

And I can tell you this: for those saying he is also the establishment, or they’re all the same– we know that the disaster we’re facing here at home and in the world would not be happening if a President Romney was at the helm starting in 2013. There would be no Iran nuke deal; we would have nailed ISIS; as a result there would be no migrant/refugee crisis. Romney was also the only one in 2012 who got it about the border and immigration.

But… we’ve now endured 4 more years of being betrayed by the Republican bureaucracy. The GOP itself is so clueless they completely missed the seriousness of the Trump candidacy. Now we’re supposed to believe that they understand what’s happening and only they have the answer and that answer is No Trump?

No one expects him to tell us to rally around the front runner. And I personally think a Cruz-Rubio unity team could come out ahead, if they can put the nation before their egos. And even then there’s no guarantee that would defeat Trump. Let the voters decide! But I would prefer a serious race with whomever the nominee is winning with something more than a weak plurality. If Trump can pull this off, then he can do it mano-a-mano. And if he does, then so be it.

As I mentioned during Tammy Radio today, I’m all for strategy amongst the players during the primary season, but if the GOP bureaucracy can’t even pull that off and starts with “3rd party” nonsense then I’m officially on the Trump Train. We’ll see.

Question to you: Is this a good idea? Can it hurt? Help? What’s your take on this tactic?

Mitt Romney to speak on ‘state of the 2016 presidential race’ Thursday

Mitt Romney will speak Thursday on “the state of the 2016 presidential race,” he said in a press release.

The 2012 Republican nominee will speak at 11:30 a.m. ET on Thursday at the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics Forum, the same day that the remaining GOP presidential candidates are schedule to debate in Detroit.

A source close to Romney told CNN the speech is not an endorsement or announcement. Another source close to Romney’s plans said he’s expected to praise Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, who are both trying to be an alternative candidate to the brash billionaire.

Instead, he’ll use the speech to criticize GOP front-runner Donald Trump, emphasizing that Trump is the wrong person to lead the Republican Party in November and underscoring the “choices facing the Republican Party and the country” in this election.

Another source close to Romney told CNN that he is “going after Trump” in the speech.

Trump responded late Wednesday by mocking Romney in a pair of tweets.

“Failed Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney is having a news conference tomorrow to criticize me,” he tweeted. “Just another desperate move by the man who should have easily beaten Barrack (sic) Obama.”

Bad idea for several reasons, two of which immediately come to mind to anyone with half a brain. 1: Reality or not, the perception is there exists no better symbol than Romney for the establishment that gave rise to the outrage which fuels Trump’s candidacy. 2: Romney couldn’t win his own election. How is anything he has to say helpful to anyone else to win THIS election?

I don’t agree with those who support Trump, but I definitely understand the burn-it-all-to-the-ground mentality that has arisen in the electorate due to decades of Washington hacks saying whatever it takes to get elected, then turning on a dime when they get into office, only to say whatever people want to hear again when reelection time comes around.

As Ace Of Spades stated when I asked him point blank why he, usually the voice of reason, was now pumping Trump, I’m tired of being a sh** sandwich condiment dispenser for the GOP. But I am not yet ready to burn it all to the ground.

I’m thinking Romney’s been asked to do this by Paul Ryan. Of course he’ll lecture us all on the evils of Trump. Just another attempt to manipulate the outcome of this race and it makes me sick. This is a perfect example of the establishment’s complete and utter disregard for the American people. Let the PEOPLE speak through this election process! The Republican elites need to butt out. If someone doesn’t stand up to them now, we’ll go back to business as usual. And that would be a terrible shame.

I always liked Romney, but after this last week he’s dropped way down on my list.

This man, Romney, had the 2012 election right in his hands. The Economy, Foreign Policy all a disaster at the time. But he(and his consultants) were unable to close the deal and win the election because they collectively did not have the will power and intestinal fortitude to relentlessly attack the President on his record and policies and to promote and defend Basic Conservative Principles. He did not fight for the job like his life depended on it. He had his chance; he failed and lost. And for this reason what Romney has to say about anything means nothing to me.

Perry warned, over six(6) months ago, to anyone who would listen about Trump, but the geniuses at the Republican National Committee were too ignorant and arrogant to recognize the coming storm of popular discontent. And to top it off, Boehner and the usual gang of idiots, aka The Washington Cartel, in Congress just continued not to fight against the Administration’s outrageous policies and ‘pen and phone’ dictates, edicts, regulations, etc. Now combine that with Trump’s delusions of grandeur, pop culture crude insults, putdowns, public arguments with the Pope, game show style incoherent speeches, twitter misspelled rants and now The Sheeple are ready, willing and able to drop all pretense of rational thought and critical thinking and support a man that is MORE UNFIT, in temperament and intellect, that Obama was for President. And that’s a hard statement to make knowing what we know now.

My Solution:Ted Cruz. He’s the only antidote to this infection of the Republican Party.

I certainly won’t, can’t, defend the Republican Party. I would like to point out a few things about the conservative movement vis-a-vis the Republican Party.

Scroll up and take a look at the blog’s banner—INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE. UNRULY is there too. For years independent conservatives accused the Republican establishment as being RINOs. The es-tab-lish-ment, the permanent political class, the structure, the organisation of the party, is found guilty of falsely identifying itself by using its own name.

Independent conservative, that’s what I called myself and my guess is that’s how most of the TAMs see themselves. The most Republican-like we were was to dutifully vote for Republican candidates we weren’t happy about. Some of us finding it more honorable to stay home on election day. We had no vehicle of our own so latched on to—used–the Republican Party. Although tense and combative, it was a symbiotic relationship with the GOP using us as well, perhaps more.

Now independent conservatives want what? An OUTSIDER!! And here he is. The Republican Party has the audacity to call Donald Trump a RINO. The Republican Party may decide it is dishonorable to support this candidate.

This isn’t a rift, it’s a breakup brought on by conservatives. So, stand on your own and let the chips fall where they may. Big chips probably falling on our heads.

By itself, Mitt’s address won’t help, won’t hurt. My concern is, it will provide fodder for Fox’s moderators in this evening’s debate and detract/minimize the recent voters’ preferences expressed on Super Tuesday.

  6. Kimj7157 says:

Mitt is officially a tool for the establishment. He could have given his opinion in an op-ed. But, no, he will have a grand stage on which to trash Trump.

Whether you’re for Trump or not, this should be troubling. The Republican establishment doesn’t care about what the people may want. They are bound and determined to get what THEY want. All of a sudden Romney is relevant again! When is the last time a former, FAILED presidential candidate was given such a build up, and such a prime platform to impart his wisdom? This is a very calculated move, and it stinks.

If Trump loses here, the establishment wins once again and nothing will change in Washington. He hasn’t changed any of my core beliefs. A Trump win will NOT re-define conservative principles. It will be a step toward putting the elitist, Republican establishment in its place and we will have 4 years of someone determined to actually get things done that this country desperately neeed.

Sorry, but I won’t waste another minute listening to Mittens. He lost, when he could have won. I held my breath and voted for this weak, boring candidate. He is partly to blame for the current mess we’re in because he didn’t stand up to GOP to beat Obama. Unless he plans to say the GOP needs to unify to defeat the Democrat candidate, he’s worthless and me and is trying to ensure a Hillary presidency, IMHO.
