Mexico is looking for a PR firm to help improve the country’s image. Tens of thousands of people have died in drug related violence since Pres. Calderone declared war on the cartels. Beheadings, kidnappings, torture, murder, all this is bad for the tourist industry.

The drug cartels once struggled with an image problem too. When dropping their victims in vats of acid didn’t get them a reputation shocking enough, they choose the PR firm of al-Qaeda and switched to beheadings. (Why are beheadings so popular with Mexico’s drug gangs?)

The U.S. State Department says millions of U.S. citizens visit Mexico safely every year. It’s a matter of staying away from the bad places and sticking to the safer places—during daylight hours.

Mexican President Calderone called for continued resolve in fighting the cartels “or we will always live in fear”. Now there’s a slogan for you. Or maybe it could be “It’s All America’s Fault”

“The origin of our violence problem begins with the fact that Mexico is located next to the country that has the highest levels of drug consumption in the world,” Calderón wrote. “It is as if our neighbor were the biggest drug addict in the world.”

Whatever PR firm Mexico hires, it will probably not do a media tour. That didn’t work out so well the last time it was tried.

Reporters Kidnapped at Machete-Point in Mexico

A government media tour to promote tourism in southwestern Mexico went awry when the 13 reporters on the trip were briefly kidnapped by machete-wielding indigenous communal landowners, officials said Sunday. Fifteen people trying to film a beer commercial were also abducted.

Any suggestions to help out Mexico with their PR campaign?

“I left my heart in ….”
“Mama Mia, that’s a big machete!”
“Look, Ma, no head”

The Mexican government doesn’t need any slogans to promote tourism of its citizens to the U.S.—permanent tourism. They may, however, decide to advertise their government’s services to their citizens after they’ve left. Something like this:

“We’ll see you on the other side”
(Protection through Integration: The Mexican Government’s Efforts to Aid Migrants in the United States )

How about, “Mexico – Isn’t it Time to Get Away?”

The sentiment that both Mexicans AND tourists fleeing machetes agree on.

that’s rich, really, whitewashing sadistic mass murder and virulent racism. no doubt our first ‘lady’ will lend them a hand with their bullsh*t PR. mexico is so corrupt the only hope of setting it right would be a complete revolution. isn’t that starting to sound somehow, sadly, familiar? we’re turning into Mexico and Mexico is fretting over tourism.

no wonder regular mexicans have given up on god and worship Death instead. they know first hand that Mexico isn’t interested in justice and equality for them. there is no appreciable difference between the drug dealers and the powers that be in mexico. mexicans are being slaughtered in heaps- just like as with the conquistadors. but america is evil for trying to protect herself for become the nightmare that is their country.

that patron saint of all the americas is Our Lady of Guadalupe. funny thing is that in statuary she is presented as brown skinned . she spoke in the indigenous tongue when she appeared. in france we have ‘ black madonnas’ too- and they are considered very powerful so much so that for hundreds of years they have been the repeated targets of theft born of reverence not greed. mexicans need to turn to their patroness (to me the Mother of us all) and heal themselves before hiring PR firms to lie about their depraved state and the evil creatures- really the drug lords and gangs- that control it. they don’t need PR they need the rule of law and a return to a set of values that preserve and uphold basic human rights. the reason they flee mexico is because their own country denies them this based on their skin tone. the powers that be on both sides of the border merely flip and project this state of affairs onto america. the tragedy of mexico will never be solved only furthered if this hypocrisy and misdirection does not stop. leaving mexico will not save it- staying and recreating it will if only america would stop being the main enabler of this corrupt dysfunctional state.

Such a good writeup, thierry. Tomorrow I go light a candle to OLOG and speak with her. She appeared “in the skin” of the indigineous because she appears as beautiful in the eyes of those to whom she appears, no matter where she appears (can you tell I was a Confirmation teacher?). You have made a very good point, and a good point which I plan to use when I write my (next) letter to our USCCB. Thanks for the focus, thierry.

Maybe they could use a twist on the Las Vegas theme: what lives in Mexico stays in Mexico. Nah….that pro’ly won’t work.

I heard there’s a bar down there full of vampires that lure truckers, bikers and tourists in with loose woman and cheap booze. Be careful if you go… be very careful.

I have a friend who lives in Mexico. Recently, she was physically assaulted while enjoying her daily walk by the sea. She played it down.

Locate the corrupted AMERICAN SLIMEBALLS and you’ll eliminate the problem. Too many people in power are making MEGA-BUCKS in this game because they are corrupt.
