WaPo Commemorates 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11: ‘Mostly White And Male’
by Shifra on July 17, 2019Wow, WaPo is sooo “woke.” And so is the NYT: The Apollo program was designed by men, for men. If we do not acknowledge the gender bias of the early space program, it becomes difficult to move past it. https://t.co/Mt7rVLgAaf — The New York Times (@nytimes) July 17, 2019 HT Twitchy “It wouldn’t be a celebration of American ingenuity without the Washington Post finding a way to crap all over it.” The culture that put men on the moon was intense, fun, family-unfriendly, and mostly white and male https://t.co/x5vQBuU4IN — The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) July 16, 2019 And yep, their tweet was ratioed “into the stratosphere.” Just like the WaPo newsroom at the time. — JWF (@JammieWF) July 16, 2019...

Scary and Compelling: Navy Jet Encounters Unknown Object
by Tammy on December 16, 2017David Fravor is a former Navy pilot who says he was “pretty weirded out” by an unexplained episode [in 2004] over the Pacific. His story has captured the attention of a Pentagon program investigating UFOs. / M. Scott Brauer for the NYT. This is a Must Read for your weekend. Important enough, it’s one of the few times I’ll be linking to the New York Times. Via NY Times. Commander Fravor, in a recent interview with The New York Times, recalled what happened next. Some of it is captured in a video made public by officials with a Pentagon program that investigated U.F.O.s. “Well, we’ve got a real-world vector for you,” the radio operator said, according to Commander Fravor. For...

Satellite That Hunts for Black Holes in Space Is, Um, Missing
by Tammy on April 29, 2016So at first I thought it found one, but they *think* there was some major breakage and it went swirling off into space. Sigh. Via ABC. Japan is abandoning its recently launched $273 million Hitomi space telescope after two solar array panels apparently broke off the satellite, sending it spinning wildly into space. Hitomi was launched in February with the goal of using its x-ray vision to shed new light on black holes, supernova remnants and galaxy clusters. One month later, the space agency said it was unable to figure out the health of the satellite after it became unresponsive and debris was spotted around it. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said it received three signals believed to be from...

Help Find Sam the Toy Mascot Dog! He Got to Space, Now Missing On Earth
by Tammy on April 10, 2016He landed in England somewhere, now the search is on! Via the Independent. A group of schoolchildren are searching for a toy dog which went missing after they launched it into space. As part of a science project, the pupils from Morecambe Bay Community Primary School used a giant helium balloon to see if they could send Sam the Dog, a cuddly toy mascot, to the edge of space. With the aid of SentIntoSpace, a British company which specialises in such projects, they strapped Sam onto his spacecraft, along with a GPS tracker and a GoPro camera to capture the action. The ‘launch’, which took place on 5 April at a hotel in the town, proved successful. Sam rose at...

Scientists Hatch a Plan to Protect Humanity from Hostile Aliens
by Tammy on March 31, 2016I like that they’re thinking ahead, but we better hatch a plan to deal with hostile and savage humans that are roaming the Earth first. Just saying. Via Discovery. Earth is a bountiful planet rich in resources. And, if you believe Stephen Hawking, that might cause our demise. Such alien alarmists compare first contact to the devastation Europeans brought to North America. “We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet,” Hawking said back in 2010. “I imagine they might exist in massive ships … having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever...

Missing Model Flying Saucer Found in Pieces in Roswell
by Tammy on March 24, 2016Before: After Jerks. Via UPI. “Police found this wreckage of the missing flying saucer stolen last Saturday from the International UFO Museum & Research Center in Roswell,” they wrote. The broken pieces were found two miles outside Roswell according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation, who sent the museum the photo. “We’re sad, we thought maybe we would get it back in one piece but doesn’t look like it; its in several pieces,” interim museum director Karen Jarmaillio told KRQE. Surveillance footage from the museum showed three men loading the flying saucer into their red truck, before driving off with it. The saucer had been part of the museum since 1992 and had just been repaired after being damaged...

Plan 9 From Outer Space: Kasich Refuses To Be VP, But Open to Democrat Running Mate
by Tammy on March 24, 2016What planet is this guy on? Kasich represents everything that’s wrong with the GOP. No wonder the Establishment loves him, and why this country is in the mess it is. Politicians like Kasich are bureaucrats, they’re managers of the monster of government, which is why applying the conservative ideal is anathema to them– they can’t downsize their master. Via Washington Examiner. Ohio Gov. John Kasich said he isn’t willing to serve as anyone’s vice president, but he indicated party affiliation would not matter to him when choosing his own running mate. After losing the Arizona primary and trailing a candidate who is no longer running for president, Kasich hit the campaign trail in Wisconsin and told voters only he could...

Mystery Repeating Radio Signals Detected in Deep Space
by Tammy on March 4, 2016This is the first time we’ve ever encountered signals like this. We think we know everything, but really, we know essentially nothing. Via Telegraph. E.T phoning home may be a Hollywood invention but now astronomers claim to have detected repeating radio signals from outside the solar system. The possibility of alien life somewhere in deep space remains a tantalising prospect for scientists as they continue to scan the galaxy for potential messages, or radio bursts, sent from intelligent life. And now researchers at Cornell University say they have discovered repeated 10 millisecond-long “fast radio bursts” (FRBs) after sifting through archive data caught by the Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico. “We’re showing that whatever battery drives FRBs, it can recharge in...

‘Trillions of Carats’ of Diamonds Found Under Russian Asteroid Crater
by Tammy on February 15, 2013Wow. “Helicopters are forbidden from flying over it in case downward air flow sucks them in…” Via Wired. The Russian government has revealed that a vast quantity of high-quality diamonds rests beneath a Siberian impact crater, numbering in the “trillions of carats”. The Popigai crater, 100km-wide and located in the isolated north of the country, was formed roughly 35.7 million years ago by the impact of an asteroid estimated to be between five and eight kilometres wide. Its collision created a wealth of impact diamonds — which form when an existing diamond seam is hit by a large falling body — in such quantities that could, it is claimed, supply the world diamond market for the next 3,000 years. According...

Biden–One Heartbeat Away from the Presidency, One Mind Away from the Right Century
by Tammy on August 15, 2012Boy, Obama/Biden is really serious about taking our nation back. Biden seems to think we’re still in the 20th century. Via the Weekly Standard. ‘Folks, where’s it written we cannot lead the world in the 20th century in making automobiles?,” said Biden. UPDATE: Ryan Williams, a spokesman for the Romney campaign, responds: “Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will ensure America leads the world in the 21st century by strengthening middle-class families and creating jobs. President Obama and Vice President Biden have taken our nation backward with failed policies that have resulted in higher unemployment, more debt, and a weaker economy. A campaign based on rage and divisiveness can’t hide the president’s failed record.”
