Lana Clarkson

Four years since actress Lana Clarkson was shot in the head in Spector’s foyer and police finding him that night at the rear of his home, bloody and resisting arrest, the famous music producer finally goes on trial, with jury selection scheduled to start today. And as we’ve seen, exemplified by the OJ Simpson murder trial, finding a jury that knows that it’s doing is perhaps the most important part of a trial.

He’s been out on one million dollars bail in the meantime. What’s the problem with waiting for four years? The memory of witnesses fades, witnesses die, evidence is less fresh, even in the minds of the detectives. and what can I say about juries for the famous in my home town? The record indicates a clear double-standard for the accused, as juries regularly give a pass to celebrities. It’s more than embarrassing, but all we can do is hope that the Los Angeles District Attorney doesn’t screw this one us, and that a jury can be found who knows the difference between right and wrong.

Music producer’s trial set to begin

LOS ANGELES — Legendary rock ‘n’ roll producer Phil Spector is set to go on trial on murder charges today, four years after Hollywood actress Lana Clarkson was fatally shot at his hilltop mansion.

The trial will be the first Los Angeles criminal proceeding to be televised since a jury acquitted athlete-actor O. J. Simpson of murder in 1995. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler estimates the trial could last three months after three weeks of jury selection…

He has been free on $1 million bail since his arrest in February 2003 in the death of the 40-year-old Clarkson. The tall, blond actress had starred in low-budget films, including Barbarian Queen and Amazon Women on the Moon. She also had small roles in numerous TV series…

Police seized 11 guns from Spector’s home. Fidler is allowing prosecutors to introduce testimony from four women who told the grand jury about separate incidents in which Spector pointed a gun and threatened them after they rejected his sexual advances. The women’s stories are “probably the most devastating evidence against him,”…

History could favor Spector: Southern California juries have a record of freeing well-known criminal defendants. Simpson was found not guilty of killing his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Jurors acquitted actor Robert Blake in March 2005 of murdering his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. In June 2005, another jury acquitted singer Michael Jackson of child molestation.

The fact that this freak stayed out of jail for as long as he did even before the Clarkson murder is beyond me. The New York Post’s Page Six details how this man treated women and the behavior ho got away with for so long.

Los Angeles magazine reports that in 1993 Spector smacked his houseguest, Joan Rivers’ then-personal assistant Dorothy Melvin, in the head with a gun and told her “to get back in the house” and “take your [bleep]ing clothes off.” When she begged him to stop, “he struck her again, rifled through her purse, threw her jacket and keys at her and ordered her out of the house. She ran to her car with Spector chasing after her, pumping a shotgun,” the magazine says…

And in 1999, when Deborah Strand saw Spector flicking cigar ash on her boyfriend’s dog at a Bel-Air Christmas party and told him to stop, “he whipped a gun out of his jacket, placed the muzzle on her cheek, and asked, ‘How does this make you feel, bitch?’ “

Today, Bruce Cutler, Spector’s fourth lawyer lawyer and a man who got Mafia kingpin John Gotti acquitted three times of racketeering charges, insists Clarkson “accidentally” killed herself. These men are scum. Lana Clarkson deserves justice. Let’s hope she gets it. But Clarkson’s gruesome death is also a result of a Hollywood machine and an American system that allows the rich and famous to do as they please, especially when it comes to the treatment of women. How a nation treats its women is an indication of its character and soul. While we certainly have come a long way, we have much further to go. If this town actually put as much passion into the real issue of how women are treated in Hollywood as they do their Global Warming religion, they might actually get something done on the ‘saving humanity’ front.

Ronnie Spector has a million and one horror stories about her marriage to Phil, and has said that she still has nightmares about him.

I wonder what it is about these “genius” types that makes them three fries short of a full happy meal?

Just thinking about how OJ and Blake got off for murdering their wives makes me ill, and now this moron is attempting the same schtick. Why do we tolerate these abusers of women? I just hope they don’t get some dopey jury who believes in “restorative” justice.
