A (questionable) post by Maynard

I’m taking advantage of the April 1 window of absurdity to post this note. There is nothing political or social here, other than a word of support for an anonymous curmudgeon who tickled my funny bone. If you’ve got a taste for absurd humor, click the “more” button below. Otherwise, ignore these words, and accept my profound apology for this inappropriate diversion from our primary mission of saving the world.

Also, be warned that following the links in this note may lead to some mature (that is to say, immature) themes and languages. But, no, nothing overtly pornographic, so don’t get your hopes up.

Connoisseurs of Amazon reviews may have noticed the occasional oddball commentary. For example, someone may appraise a brand of overpriced caviar with an eye to how much their cat enjoyed it, or the results of using caviar in lieu of sunscreen. I have a special appreciation for these renegade wordsmiths who distribute their parodies where I may haphazardly stumble across them.

Chatchi is such an artist. His collection of reviews was always worth checking out. He rose in status to be a top Amazon reviewer.

Here, by way of example, is Chatchi-reviewed product, the (ahem!) classic video “Caught on Tape: Bachelor Party”.

Unfortunately, according to Chatchi’s personal blog, Amazon didn’t get the joke. They recently swept through Chatchi’s compilation like a swarm of angry termites on Heather Mills’ leg, eliminating a fair portion of them. This seems to me a loss for all.

I doubt there’s anything to be done. I’m not advocating boycotts or civil disobedience. But Mr. Chatchi has been an asset to the Amazon community, and he deserves better. If Amazon won’t thank him, then I will.
