And they spring into action after today’s missive from al-Qaida’s #2 (and I mean that literally).

New Video From Al Qaeda Number Two

As Americans celebrate the 4th of July today, Al Qaeda’s top deputy Ayman Zawahiri is appearing in a new internet video praising jihadi fighters in Iraq and elsewhere. In the hour and half long video, which surfaced today on the website Strategic Translations, a translation and terror analysis firm, Zawahiri urges his followers to hurry to Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, and Somalia.

He also offers a message of confidence to the jihadi fighters in prison saying that victory in Iraq and Afghanistan will come soon.

“You must be patient and steadfast,” he says. “Rejoice, for victory is near, with Allah’s permission, and the herds of crusaders have begun to split up and their sole concern has become searching for a way out.”

So, what exactly is the Dem plan for Monday, now that we have more proof what they’ve been doing is exactly what the enemy wants them to do? Do more of it, of course!

New Effort To End War Set Monday

Five weeks after President Bush won unfettered funding for America to fight the war in Iraq until September, Senate Democrats will try again on Monday to end the war.

In order to successfully overturn a likely presidential veto of any effort that would withhold funding or mandate a retreat from Iraq, Senate Democrats will have to convince a third of the Republican caucus to vote with them.

This will require Democrats “continuing to punch, day in and day out,” said Senator Biden of Delaware.

True to form, working hard for failure and surrender. Zawahiri must be very, very proud. And what a terrific follow-up to their Amnesty Bill frenzy which garnered them am overall 14% approval rating. Hey, when you’re on a roll…

From 1860 to 2007 the Democrat Party hasn’t changed one bit.

And Zawahiri’s prediction is wrong? The inept White House continues to crumble. Four years into the war and they are clueless as to what to do in Iraq. The milk toast “war” strategy planning based on politics and public opinion belongs in Ripley’s Believe It or Not. The idea of winning was thrown out years ago by this administration. It will be a Congressionally mandated retreat or a humiliating “more-modest attempt” that is doomed to fail and only get more of our splendid young men and women killed or maimed. The politicians already lost the war. Our enemies, foreign and domestic, have won. Why not get the troops out?

In Strategy Shift, Gates Envisions Iraq Troop Cuts

Defense Secretary Robert Gates and some allies in the Bush administration are seeking to build bipartisan political support for a long-term U.S. presence in Iraq by moving toward withdrawing significant numbers of troops from Iraq by the end of President Bush’s term.

The emerging plan would shift the U.S. mission in Iraq to a more-modest attempt to contain its civil war, rather than the current effort to end the conflict. [Are you kidding!-P] A smaller force of American troops, operating out of large bases far from Iraq’s major cities, would focus on battling al Qaeda, securing Iraq’s borders and training the country’s struggling security forces.

The change in thinking underscores administration officials’ increasing concern that rapidly diminishing support for the war among Americans and in Congress could spark a precipitous withdrawal. Administration officials fear such an outcome could endanger U.S. national security by leaving a failed state in the hands of Shiite and Sunni Islamic extremists.

Pat … Don’t despair. Dubya may have mucked up a lot of things, and he has screwed up plenty. But I think even he has a core issue that will always be something he focuses on. And at his very core, I believe he will focus on iran. Somehow or another, Dubya’s final act will be directed at the mullahs. And I expect him to be VERY serious when he treads there. Even though an attack will result in some acts of terrorism against we and our friends, it is OUR price to pay to win this war against savages. And I believe if terror cells in this country spring into action, we have a lot of average Joes packing heat who will kill a jihadi with no guilt whatever.

I agree, CONNECTICUTBRUCE. It’s possible Bush will make a big decision about Iran, but I think it hinges on Israel’s ability to press an emotional argument that appeals to his Good-Evil worldview dichotomy. Bush can get his head around a short-term bombing campaign.

I don’t see how the current conflict in Iraq can end successfully for us at this point, but we have a generation of war ahead of us. It might come down to a street fight here at home. I guess I should start thinking about packing heat myself.

It has, of late, seemed to me to be important for conservatives to publicly ask these questions, over and over and over:

    (1) Why can Democrat press releases and statements on the war be substituted, virtually verbatim, for terrorist press releases and videos?

    (2) When the only way for an American political party to win is for America to lose, what does that say about it’s adherents?

And Pat_S, you’re right. You should be “packing heat.” You have always been responsible for your personal safety, and if our Dem. friends get their way, the war will be taking place in our shopping malls, theaters and schools.
