Drill here. Drill now. Yes, it will take some time to see the benefits, but when you hear someone complain that drilling now won’t affect things for years to come, ask them if you should also stop saving for your retirement because you won’t need that for years to come, either.

Bottom line, the years will go by, and it’s not just about prices–it’s also about cultivating energy independence, which includes our own oil and nuclear power.

That is a brilliant comeback! and, I have to say the .jpg is just hillarious, sad, but hillarious.

Heard someone mention these “secret” meetings on a late night radio program, last night; it seems that McCain has been telling Hispanics behind “closed doors” that immigration reform ala his comprehensive immigration reform bill will be his first priority if he’s elected president; this makes a big difference to me; even if he does choose a VP that makes him “better” I don’t think anything can make McCain palatable anymore.

You can make the argument that just making the decision to achieve energy independence and having the world know we MEAN it will bring prices down. But if the price of gas doesn’t drop once cent it is still imperative energy independence be our goal. Why should we, why WOULD we allow ourselves to be put in a position where we could be held hostage … at the mercy of people who essentially hate us?

As Marleed notes, another part of their idiocy appears to be the idea that oil has to be physically extracted and currently available on the market to affect prices. Uh, no. Overall worldwide supply and demand wasn’t much different three years ago: this is a classic speculative bubble and ANY action toward increased supply in the future should put a ceiling on the speculators, who as always in such situations have long since forgotten about the actual value of the assets they’re bidding up. Right now what they’re betting on isn’t the price of turning a barrel of crude into gallons in your tank over the course of months: it’s what the price of another futures contract will be tomorrow morning.

    High Prices at the Pump
are the the result of several factors:
    1. Self inflicted government (environmental) restrictions on domestic production of crude oil and refined gasoline.
    2. Heavy and increasing demand for oil and from places outside the USA providing intense competition for these resources. Upward price adjustments naturally result.
    3. The reduced value of the US Dollar over the last decade due to the fact that we Americans export our wealth, approximately 2/3 of our cumulative individual energy expenditures on a nationwide scale, to those who supply the world with crude oil and finished gasoline. The US Dollar Index, an index which measures the value of the dollar against a basket of currencies from other large industrialized nations, has sunk from 121.02 in July 2001 to 70.7 in March 2008.* It’s now at 73.05. Inflation caused by government funding of the war and new pharmacy prescriptions entitlements dilute our currency and contribute to its devaluation.

    SELF RELIANCE
Let’s just say we start developing our own resources and lower the amount we import. The US Dollar would rise. Its value has over the decades swung in both directions. It was cheap following the Viet Nam War and, dear in the 1980’s. Now it’s cheap again. Suppose it returned to parity at 100.00, an increase of 29/71 or about 40%. That means we could buy 40% more gasoline for the same dollar as today. For example with $4.00 we could buy 1.4 gallons. That’s about $2.86 per gallon of gasoline.

    NATIONAL SECURITY
Why tip the balance of power towards non Americans especially those who want DEATH TO AMERICA or “CHANGE”? We know the answer to that. The Democrat Party and the Left have successfully derived political power by denigrating other Americans who work to fulfill our energy demands. The Left says no to self reliance and yes to anyone who threatens its opposition even if that’s self destructive. They are informed by a greed for tax revenue funded power and a jealous suspicion of those who succeed outside of their collectivist world view, a view which makes friction against this country’s unique rise and continued success. They are the “born yesterday” crowd who enjoy the benefits of the sophisticated choreography of free market capitalism but who don’t really understand it. Then there are the true believers, the Marxists. Both groups are ready to blame the good guys while showing tolerance for our enemies when it helps the Left achieve power, their core value. (George Washington, good guy or slave holding warmonger?)

The Left is open about its goals:
    1. Reduce the supply of oil and gasoline.
    2. Reduce the demand for oil and gasoline.
    3. Control the price for oil and gasoline.
How (from the lips of Al Gore, Billary Clinton, Obama)
    1. Limit domestic exploration and drilling in the most evil of all evil “planet killers”, the USA.
    2. Install a government regime of gasoline rationing via the carbon tax and carbon usage allowances.
    3. Persecute those who work in the oil industry then steal (nationalize) their properties.

    Same old Maxist playbook.

Obama almost daily says things dumber than a crackhead hooker.

    But his moronic talking point….

(and his fawning DNC posse who MUST realize in their guts this guy is a glib charlatan )

… no pint in “drilling in ANAR” because that won’t affect the price at the pump NOW!

Oh you mean that might be part of a LONG-TERM goal, Obama?

Then in the next sentence he’s mumbling about HIS long-term Energy goals with crap about hydrogen cars, and other pie in the sky nonsense….

Like that “long-term” goal is going to affect the price of gas NOW either.

Or maybe he believes the oil companies have the car that runs on tap water slashed away in AREA 51 OCTANE

God almightly, this is such a gift for McCain.

    BE INFORMED
Capital is already flowing into alternate means of fulfillment. I’m talking about our needs for and joys of driving. It’s the old “throw some spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks” method of finding what is the next big step. The US Army has a number of experiments including a fleet of hydrogen fuel cell cars and more importantly hybrid powered solutions for assault vehicles. They drive the proverbial tank into battle which traditionally operates on gasoline. They hate it when they run out of gas. They’ve been on the vanguard of working with private contractors for a number of years. Also, there’s no oxygen to burn gasoline on the Moon or Mars where NASA sometimes sends exploration vehicles. Small governments like Norway, Iceland, California and Connecticut have been purchasing small fleets of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles along with refueling stations.

This autumn we will see the commercial roll out of gasoline assisted plug in hybrids which use the coal fired electrical generators down at the local power plant at a small fraction of the price of gas.

How about 100 mpg? How about the first 50 miles away from home each day with no tailpipe emissions and no gasoline usage? How about an integral roof mounted solar collector to power your AC unit to automatically cool your car while it’s out in that hot parking lot all day? What if it were fast, sleek, high performance and sexy? The future is here brought to you not by dim witted politicians, stupid government mandates and the culture of “nyet” (that’s Russian for NO) but, by innovative enterprising people teaming up for profit.

I love the American people. I love the USA.

Here’s the car I was talking about: http://www.fiskerautomotive.com/
    I want one.

Here’s a company which has been building boutique hybrids for all the major players mentioned above:

While gap between oil supply, supply decline and rising demand converged, oil was fairly cheap. At a 5Mbpd spread it jumped, and now, with spot shortages, and supply logistical constraints (the oil isn’t at the spot where you want it when you need it), it spikes. During the spike, the gap narrows, and that does not allow the price to roll back much, if at all.

It only takes a relatively small increase in supply to chase the speculators out of the markets. They thrive on volatility. They are not very interested in commodities that are stable, even if they are steadily advancing. This is evidenced by the lack of speculator interest in 2004-2005 as oil rose steadily, but slowly without shocks and spikes.

Obama has his head “where the monkey put the gum”. If he is a visionary, he should be interested in long term solutions now, even if there is no immediate payoff. But backtracking on his no ANWAR pledge means political suicide with the environmenal, mental cases.

The short solution is small plug-in hybrids for commuting, because when the rationing starts, you will hopefully still be able to get electricity. Hybrids are not a free ride however. The batteries are toxic, expensive, and only last about 7-years. The cost is around $8000 to replace them today, and as inflation rises, that cost will double by the time they need replacing for sure.

In the mean time drill, drill, drill, and nuke, nuke, nuke. We already know we will be using oil 10 or 20 years from now, so why not drill American oil for America’s use, and employ Americans to find, extract and refine it and pay taxes on it to American government? We can stop some portion of the massive wealth transfer from America to the middle east. I guess we could keep whining about those rich sheiks buying up realestate, and building their Madrassas here, while we ship them buckets of money for barrels of oil.
