The news blindsided even his biggest champions: Barack Obama had joined Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev and the Dalai Lama as a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Former Polish President Lech Walesa, himself a Noble laureate, echoed many when he responded: “So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far.” Even the Nobel Prize committee acknowledged the award honored Obama’s “efforts” to advance global harmony, rather than concrete achievements to date…

Said Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele: “It is unfortunate that the President’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights.”

    I no longer have respect for, or faith in any of these institutions. As a wide-eyed child I imagined serving this country, or being awarded grand accolades required great personal sacrifice or great moral integrity. Now I see it all as the apathetic masses letting the ambitiously corrupt steal and aggregate power.

    My question is…do we know when, it becomes OUR DUTY to throw off this Government and provide new Guards? The ideology being pushed upon us do not to me seem to be “light” and certainly not “transiant”. Do we hope the ’10 and ’12 election cycles go the right way and undo all this damage? What if these freaks steal it again in ’10 and ’12 (if we’re not vaporized by then).

    Every day, the news seems to be more dire and more dire. We’ve all talked about it here, what this administration is doing: the reductions in arms, the complete lack of support of the military and what that is doing to them, the over the top colusion of the Congress with respect to whatever rules they are passing on to slit the throat of the citizenry, the propping up of our enemies (isn’t that aiding and abedding by the way, I think that’s treason – but it’s in the Constitution, so whatever). I mean – LOOK at it? When do we know? Can someone talk me down off the ledge?!

      Carol: I believe I heard the nominee submittal names are not released for 50 years. Gee…wonder who came up with that rule…

      The statutes of the Nobel Foundation restrict disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, for 50 years. The restriction concerns the nominees and nominators, as well as investigations and opinions related to the award of a prize.

    Sima Samar, Afghani women’s and children’s rights activist. She defied the Taliban in teaching girls past the age of eight among other pro-women efforts; even during the most brutal days of the regime.

    Hu Jia, outspoken critic of the ChiCom government. Was sentenced last year to more than three years in prison for his efforts.

    Wei Jingsheng, spent 17 years in ChiCom prisons for criticizing government reforms. Currently lives in the US.

    Ingrid Betancourt, held hostage by the the Marxist-terrorist FARC guerilla in Columbia. She spent six years in captivity until rescued by the Columbian Military.

    Dr. Denis Mukwege, Congolese doctor who has dedicated himself to helping women and girls who have been victims of horrific sexual violence.

    Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition, two organizations dedicated to cleaning up landmines that maim people the world over because they can’t be seen that easily.

    Yeah, I agree with the FAUXTUS. He doesn’t deserve the Nobel.

    Someone else might want to try to confirm this for me but I heard a report that Pelosi and Reid are planning to announce monday that they will award Barack Obama the 2012 presidency based on what he is planning to do in the next 3 years with their help.
