Guess which city!

Washington, DC, at 6.2%! Washington is a recession-proof city! (Here’s the list; Washington’s #50, but you’ll see it’s the first big city in the list.)

Why is Washington thriving while the rest of us suffer? What is Washington doing right?

Certainly not law and order. Washington’s near the top with respect to the murder rate, at about 3 times the national average.

Not a lot of industry in Washington. You don’t find much that’s “Made in Washington”. (Other than the interns and pages, haw haw haw. As the man said, “Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.”)

Does Washington have an educated, motivated workforce? Wikipedia notes:

According to a 2007 article in The Washington Post, the Washington D.C. public school district spends $12,979 per student per year. This is the third highest level of funding per student out of the 100 biggest school districts in the U.S. Despite this high level of funding, the school district has produced outcomes that are lower than the national average. In reading and math, the district’s students score the lowest among 11 major school districts – even when poor children are compared with other poor children. 33% of poor fourth graders in the U.S. lack basic skills in math, but in Washington D.C., it’s 62%. In 2004, the U.S. Congress set up a voucher program for low income minority students in Washington D.C. to attend private schools. The vouchers were $7,500 per student per year. The parents said their children were receiving a much better education from the private schools. In 2007, Washington D.C. non-voting delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton said she wanted the voucher program to be eliminated, and that the public schools needed more money.

It’s time for us conservatives to admit we’ve been wrong. The facts clearly show that more government is the answer to all our ills. We should aspire to emulate Washington’s fine example. Then the rest of us can be as prosperous and sated as Washington. And we can do it without work, without skills, without commitment. All we need is someone to leech off.

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.
—Ronald Reagan

And that is one of the reasons Obama won in Virginia. I have been advocating the relocation of the capitol for some time. I think it should be moved to Missouri. The original capitol was chosen because it was a central location. That is no longer true. Spend the rest of the stimulus money on building a new capitol that way Nancy Pelosi will have no excuse when she says she need a larger plane. Just think of the security advantages and how much less the congresspeople will have to travel. Glenn Beck has advocated just having the representatives stay in their home districts and vote from there electronically. That way the people would always have accces to them directly. I can see no reason why this can’t be done either.

P.S My church owns lots of land in Missouri they would probably sell to the government. : )
Just a little inside joke for Mormons.
