The Snazzy Napper – Privacy in a
by Pat_S on August 24, 2010BurqaBagA post by Pat Use it in the car! Use it on the bus! Use it on the train! Use it on an airplane! It’s like privacy in a bag. That’s how it’s being sold. No stigma attached to covering up like this in public. It’s practical and fun. The Snazzy Napper has been getting a lot of attention after CNN ran a story about it. It is the creation of Dr. Margaret Wilson who came up with the idea after having to put a jacket over herself to catch a few winks on a plane. With the Snazzy Napper, “they don’t have to look at you with your mouth open while you sleep”. Right, they’ll be looking at you...

Shadows of Scheherazade
by Maynard on August 23, 2010A multicultural post by Maynard The legendary collection of fables from the ancient Muslim world, 1001 Arabian Nights, dates back over a thousand years. It includes such classic stories as Aladdin, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor. The popular English version was translated in the 1880’s by the famous English explorer Richard Francis Burton. This text is available at Amazon and also online. Some of the text that follows is not appropriate for prime time viewing. Please continue only if you will not be troubled by “mature” discussions.

Dancing With The Stares
by Pat_S on May 14, 2010A post by Pat We were recently discussing the depravity of a culture that engages in female genital mutilation. What can be said about a culture that does this to little girls? Our culture sexualizes little girls through toys, fashion, media and music. What is the matter with parents? Here’s a mom of one of the girls explaining this is a family oriented activity taken out of context. It’s a sport. People just don’t understand the dance moves. Mom, it’s the little girls who don’t understand the dance moves. The father had it right: “She really doesn’t know what she’s doing.” I guess it can’t be sexual if little girls make those moves? Urban dance? More like a pedophile’s dream....

Kudos to a Brave Saudi Housewife
by Pat_S on March 31, 2010A post by Pat It’s a jarring dichotomy that poetry is highly regarded in a culture that dehumanizes women. In the Arab world, well known poets are treated like rock stars. One brave woman is rocking the boat with her poems. “The Milliion’s Poet” is a talent contest show like “American Idol” or the British T.V. “X Factor”, but for poets. The run-of-the-mill poetry heard on the show is about Bedouin Life, praising the glories of rulers or ruing the disparity between rich and poor. Hissa Hilal, a Saudi housewife, did something different. In a live broadcast across the entire Arab world, wearing her burkha, alone on stage, Hissa Hilal attacked hardline clerics as ‘vicious in voice, barbaric, angry and...

For Those Who Want More Kathryn Bigelow
by Tammy on March 10, 2010So to speak. Here’s the Best Director Oscar winner in a rather unfortunate music video from about 1988, directed by James Cameron to whom Bigelow was married from 1989-1991. The good news is in this Western-type thingy, Bigelow doesn’t play a floozy, she plays a tough cowboy posse leader (should we expect anything less?). Save yourself some anguish, jump to about 2:50 in and look for the posse leader wearing a poncho and chewing on a cigar. It just goes to show you, you can do a really bad music video, marry the director, have the marriage not be not good either, and still become an Oscar-winning director 22 years later. What? Don’t say I never gave you anything 😉...

Think You’ve Got Troubles? – ‘Man Fined In Failed Suicide’
by Pat_S on February 26, 2010A post by Pat From the Mongols to the Czars to the Commissars, life for the Slavs has been hardship and oppression. Their literature and music reflect a bleak and resigned spirit. They survive. Marriage, well that’s a challenge that may be more daunting. Ask the man from Omsk who jumped from a ninth-floor window during an argument with his wife. He thought he would escape his troubles through death. He failed. Not only did he live, but he must pay the medical bills for the 7-yr old girl he fell on. I suppose even with that, the worst is yet to come. He may have to go back home to his wife. It doesn’t say if he tried drinking...

Swine Flu Keeps Pilgrims Away From Mecca
by Pat_S on November 7, 2009A post by Pat The cosmic sense of humor can be so delightful. Health officials want to cancel hajj for Iranians due to swine flu The Health Ministry and the Majlis Health Committee are seriously opposed to allowing Iranians to go on hajj this year due to the swine flu epidemic, MP Mohammad-Reza Rezaii-Kouchi said on Saturday. Elsewhere in his remarks, Rezaii-Kouchi criticized the Health Ministry for reporting imprecise statistics, saying the health minister had said 50 percent of the people who go on hajj would become infected with the swine flu virus while the deputy health minister said 80 percent would become infected.

Sally Quinn’s Peculiar Concern About Sarah Palin
by Pat_S on July 9, 2009A post by Pat Sarah Palin’s announcement opened up the spigots for liberal diatribes against her. They’re falling all over themselves to take a jab at this woman who exhibits too much gusto and independence for their stereotype of a female religious conservative. Sally Quinn chimed in with a column about Palin’s negligent mothering. How peculiar that liberal women who deem themselves feminists are suddenly enamored of stay-at-home child care. It is a superficial, insincere concern that applies only to Sarah Palin. Clearly they think it’s delightful to draw attention to some presumed hypocrisy on Palin’s part for being a religious woman who doesn’t want to stay home and look after the kids. It doesn’t come off because these harpies...

Susan Boyle Lost To “Diversity,” A Boy Dance Troup
by Tammy on May 30, 2009Susan came in second on tonight's "Britain's Got Talent" finale. Just one more sign of how liberal attitudes and political correctness is a flagstone of mediocrity, compromise, and ultimately, failure. Susan will be fine; just like Adam Lambert she has...

Michael Barone: Palin is the downscale voters candidate
by Pat_S on January 31, 2009A post by Pat It's worse than lies, damn lies and statistics, it's demographics. You are nothing more than your age, income, race, education and address. The reliance on demographic analysis by politicians is anathema to democratic principles. It is...
