Netflix And Amazon Users Sue Chicago Over 9% Streaming Tax
by Pat_S on September 14, 2015On July 1 of this year Chicago implemented a 9% tax for every use of streaming and cloud services such as Netflix. The tax is on consumers but effectively collected by the companies providing the service. The city claims it isn’t a new tax but rather an interpretation of the existing amusement and property lease taxes. A group of Chicago residents have initiated a court challenge to the tax. They argue the amusement tax applied to streaming service is actually a new tax and needed to be voted on by city officials. The lawsuit also claims the tax violates the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act. Chicago’s move portends a nightmare of separate municipalities imposing similar taxes. The tax is expected...

Hillary: We Are Not The First Family While At Church
by Pat_S on September 14, 2015We know. As Tammy points out, you are not the first family anywhere. Hillary at church: ‘Here we are not the First Family’ While visiting the Methodist Church that she frequented while First Lady with her daughter Chelsea and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton stated that while at church, they are “not the First Family.” Clinton stated that she and her family, rather, are “just our family,” according to ABC News on Sunday. Just regular folks. The pastor, J. Philip Wogaman, is a real hoot. He introduced Bill as Hillary’s husband and Chelsea’s dad. The congregation laughed. He even had some advice for Hillary’s flagging campaign—be nicer to the press. Wogaman is known as having a progressive religio-political point of view. He...

Former MI6 Chief Would Have Liked More From Obama On Overseas Terrorism
by Pat_S on September 13, 2015No, not Judi Dench. Sir John Sawers was on Fareed Zakaria’s CNN show GPS this morning. Sawers is the guy Mitt Romney met with in 2012. It was a private meeting and Romney was scathed for mentioning it. Romney trip begins in shambles The British media also seized on Romney’s disclosure after his visit with Prime Minister David Cameron that he had met Sir John Sawers, head of the British Intelligence agency MI6. Such meetings are typically not made public, a government spokesman told London’s Telegraph newspaper. Romney also didn’t express full confidence about security at the upcoming London Olympics. A diplomatic faux pas they all said at the time. True, Sawers is no longer the Chief of MI6—known as...

Obama Inspired By Story Of Young Iranian Humanitarian
by Pat_S on September 3, 2015Aw, how can anyone worry about the Iran nuke deal when we hear a story like this? President Obama leaves thoughtful comment on Humans of New York photo from Iran Humans of New York photographer Brandon Stanton is currently blogging in Iran. During his trip, Stanton met a father and son who were celebrating the boy’s tenth birthday. The famed blogger posted an image on Thursday from the Iranian town of Tabriz. A father told this story about his son. “Today’s his tenth birthday. He’s a very emotional young man. He likes to solve other people’s problems. One time when he was five years old, he came with me to the store and we bought two pounds of fresh apricots....

“Black Lives Matter” Really Means Everyone If You Understand Marxist Lingo
by Pat_S on July 20, 2015Democrat candidate Martin O’Malley apologized for saying all lives matter. Hillary got in trouble last month for quoting her mother who said, “All lives matter.” These hapless liberals were unaware the phrase “Black lives matter” has a deeper political meaning. Probably a lot of people misunderstand it. Some may think the slogan refers to the recent shootings of Black men by police. It goes way beyond that. Actually, according to the movement, the Black Lives Matter slogan is about all people. How so? It is a bit Orwellian and totally Marxist. The Black Lives Matter movement identifies itself as battling against state violence which comes in many forms. All the liberal victim groups are included. The movement feels the typical...

Kerry: $100 Billion To Iran No Big Deal
by Pat_S on July 16, 2015Well, if you’re with the U.S.government of course $100 billion is piffling. John Kerry was asked during a recent BBC interview if the $100 billion coming Iran’s way might contribute to violence. Kerry dismissed the notion by pointing out that Iran has plenty of domestic things to take care of like improving people’s lives so there really won’t be much left over from the $100 billion for violence. (After all, it’s only $100 billion.) Oh, maybe something left over for violence, but not enough to make a difference. Besides all the mischief Iran is involved with now doesn’t really cost anything so what’s the difference? Secretary Kerry: July 2015 » Interview With James Robbins of BBC QUESTION: Sanctions relief will...

The Government’s Flying For Dummies Campaign
by Pat_S on July 14, 2015In case you didn’t already know the government thinks you’re stupid, here’s some assistance the FAA is offering pilots to avoid fatal airplane crashes. Ready? OK kids, the FAA is running a #Flysafe national safety campaign to help you avoid loss of control (LOC) accidents this flying season. First, let’s explain what Loss of Control (LOC) means: Fly Safe: Prevent Loss of Control Accidents A Loss of Control (LOC) accident involves an unintended departure of an aircraft from controlled flight. That means if you lose control of the airplane you are then officially in an LOC situation. Since there is one fatal LOC accident every four days, the government is going to help you make a difference with the Fly...

Hillary: Same Old Same Old
by Pat_S on June 14, 2015When Hillary Clinton delivered her campaign relaunch speech I was in a situation where there was no TV in the room. Even so, the event happened. Hillary invoked a Beatles tune to slam Republicans about being stuck in yesterday. She evidently missed the irony when she proceeded to wrap herself in the 1930’s New Deal era. Most of the speech was boilerplate Liberal blather that hasn’t changed since the 1930’s. However, on a contemporary note, Hillary boasted she stood up to Putin. I wondered in what room that happened. I couldn’t remember anything to warrant such a claim during her tenure as Secretary of State. Perhaps she’s referring to a post-SOS kerfuffle last year when she compared Putin to Hitler...

Rev. Sharpton’s Daughter Wants $5M From NYC For Sprained Ankle
by Pat_S on May 18, 2015We do our best to raise our children. Inevitably they choose their own path, or crosswalk in the case of Al Sharpton’s daughter. Al Sharpton’s daughter sues city for $5M after spraining ankle Shakedown artist Al Sharpton’s eldest child wants $5 million from city taxpayers after she fell in the street and sprained her ankle, court records show. Dominique Sharpton, 28, says she was “severely injured, bruised and wounded” when she stumbled over uneven pavement at the corner of Broome Street and Broadway downtown last year, according to a lawsuit. The injury occurred last October. She’s one intrepid lady in that she isn’t letting pain get in the way of an active or activist life. She was pictured in a...

by Pat_S on April 28, 2015Brava! ABC Report: A Baltimore woman took action when she saw her son hanging out with violent demonstrators Monday. The woman, identified by ABC affiliate WMAR as the boy’s mother, was watching television when she saw her son throwing rocks at police, the station reported. Litvinenko Accidentally Poisoned Himself With Polonium Claims Main Suspect
by Pat_S on April 8, 2015Alexander Litvinenko was a former lieutenant-colonel in the Russian Federal Secret Service (FSB). In 2000 after a falling out with Putin over FSB corruption, Litvinenko fled to the U.K. and became a vocal critic of the Kremlin. On November 1, 2006 Mr. Litvinenko had tea with other former agents, Andrei Lugovoi and Dmitri Kovtun, at a London hotel and fell ill soon after. He was hospitalized after severe vomiting. It was confirmed Litvinenko was a victim of polonium-210 poisoning. In an interview with the BBC while he was hospitalized he said he had been looking into the assassination of Russian journalist Anna Politkovska. Litvinenko accused Putin of being behind his poisoning. Andrei Lugovoi and Dimitri Kovtun are the main suspects,...

Hillary Press Conference Announced Too Late For Press Credentialing
by Pat_S on March 10, 2015Late yesterday Hillary Clinton announced she would hold a press conference to answer questions about the private email account sometime in the following 48 hours. That’s eight days after the controversy emerged. This morning it was announced the press conference will take place this afternoon at the UN following her speech there. Problem for the media: The UN has a rigorous process for issuing press credentials. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the event. A Clinton spokesman says his team has been working since “the wee hours of the morning” to help journalists get access. Why not have the press conference outside the UN?

Donna Shalala, Former HHS Secretary, To Head Clinton Foundation
by Pat_S on March 8, 2015Hail, hail, the gang’s all here. If it isn’t a university it’s a foundation for Democrat former government officials. Former health secretary to head up Clinton Foundation Donna Shalala, a former U.S. secretary of health and human services, will lead the nonprofit Clinton Foundation after its previous chief executive resigned in January, former President Bill Clinton announced on Friday. Shalala, who has a decades-long friendship with the Clintons and served in Bill Clinton’s cabinet, will become the foundation’s president and chief executive officer in the coming months. Last year, she announced she would soon be ending her 14-year tenure as president of the University of Miami. The announcement was made onstage at a youth conference for the Clinton Global Initiative,...

Unaccountable Hillary
by Pat_S on March 4, 2015Libs are circling the wagons around Hillary after the New York Times revealed she used a personal email account during her tenure as Secretary of State. David Brock of Media Matters wrote a letter to the NYT accusing them of sloppy journalism in that they did not prove that Clinton broke the law. (David Brock Calls On The New York Times To Issue “Prominent Correction” To Sloppy Clinton Email Reporting) That meme is generally the defense you’ll hear from the Left on this matter. So let’s just say for the sake of argument that Hillary didn’t explicitly break the law. The question still remains why did she choose to use a private email account when an official account is provided....

Dear France, We Like You Better Than Ice Cream
by Pat_S on January 16, 2015I heard that the White House wants a do over for the hug-to-France debacle today. Remember this cloying, juvenile sentimentality was supposed to be a recovery from the first embarrassment of not showing up with everybody else at the historic solidarity march. Word has leaked that this will be the next attempt at Kerry/Obama diplomacy. Is that Mooch singing? Update: From The Guardian US to France: you’ve got a placating, condescending friend in us A tone-deaf performance by James Taylor during John Kerry’s visit makes one wonder who thought up this hokey and unapologetically American idea …obviously, neither Taylor nor Kerry understood what could – and did – get lost in translation. Maybe, as two older white men, they really...
