school lunch-1

Well, well…Looks like the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture is dropping their claim that the Federal school lunch program is a smashing success.

Yes, thanks to Mooch’s “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010,” over one million children have stopped eating school lunches.

So, here’s the new spin:

Via CNS News — USDA: Yucky School Lunches Can Produce ‘Civic-Minded, Community-Conscious Adults’

….The U.S. Agriculture Department has found an upside to all those “healthy” school lunches that students refuse to eat: It says schools can use the plate waste as a “learning opportunity” to turn young students into “civic-minded, community-conscious adults.”

A blog on the USDA website explains that an elementary school in Northern Virginia is now donating untouched food to a local food pantry.

“The school’s Eco Team, run by sixth graders, ensures their fellow students are putting waste into the correct bin,” the blog says.

“The team then collects, weighs, categorizes, and places the food to be donated into separate refrigerators, provided by the Food Bus, a non-profit organization that works with schools to donate food that would otherwise go to waste….

According to USDA, “Food waste and recovery is also incorporated into science lesson plans.”

….The blog also quotes…a…school science specialist, as saying that some students “really have an affinity” for food donation.

“They want to go to the food pantry to see how it works. Their parents call in to help volunteer because the kids are so interested. We laugh because our Eco Team and Eco Patrols get blue rubber gloves so that if they find people who have thrown something in the wrong bin they can put it in the right one. They take their jobs really seriously.”

Ah… Hungry sixth-graders running around with blue rubber gloves.

Great job, FLOTUS!

The food in the photo looks gross. I don’t think FLOTUS would be too happy if her daughters had to eat that for lunch, nor would she eat it herself.

The food is probably genetically modified as well and if left long enough in the bin the bin would disintegrate, which is a blessing that they have to wear gloves. If mooch wants them to eat healthy, then get rid of monsanto

It must taste like it looks.

I thought they would be serving Obama burgers.

I must say I could have predicted this outcome. When I first heard of MO’s plan to decide what our kids would eat, I figured she must had not factored in the most important element of her plan—the actual children who were to do the eating! Grandma rules the roost over there, and Michelle probably can do little more than boil water for tea. BUT still all she had to do was ASK any parent and she would have realized that, like it or not, American children have very fussy and particular ideas about what they will eat, and no one, no parent, teacher or POTUS’ wife is going to get them to swallow food just because it is healthy! I am so happy to see my confidence in the ability of our children to put a stop to Michelle’s madness was well placed. There they are… our future… pushing back against the lamebrained ideas of big govt in their own individualistic way. To the kid who won’t eat cherries because they have no smell, to the one who will only drink apple juice, to the one who would rather fall asleep at the dinner table than eat those peas — I salute you all. You are giving your parents gray hair, but you put your stubborn streak to good use and exposed the ridiculous attempts of control that grownups were afraid to challenge. Hip, hip, hooray!

LJ, what makes you think Mooch boils her own water? She probably has someone on staff to do that for her. (Boiling water is for the “little people.”) And, a special hooray for the kids who told Mooch that her school lunches taste like vomit; there is hope for our country 🙂
