Five years after September 11th, the president has announced that it will conduct background checks on 400,000 port workers in “senstive positions.” This will include matching names against the Terrorist Watch List. (HT Breitbart)

Just a little late, dontcha think? So the next time you think the government is doing all it can to protect us, while they’re doing a decent job, this clearly indicates they’re letting the obvious slip. Also keep in mind, the Dubai deal is not necessarily off the table. With this announcement, expect a new shell game to be announced re Dubai (or more appropriately uncovered by the blogosphere).

This example also nicely puts the lie to the liberal mantra that ‘illegal immigrants take low paying jobs that no Americans will do.’ How many port workers do you know who are making “low wages” that many Americans would not want?

Meanwhile, I drive trucks for a living, and I’m currently in limbo with a 3-month temporary licence waiting for the buracracy to catch up: I have to go through a FBI background check to make sure that I can drive hazardous materials without being a threat to Homeland Security. I got my clearance letter from the Feds, but now must wait for the state to send me a letter, too, before I can get the regular CDL. Seems like, if they could check out the truck drivers, it would be obvious to check out port workers, too.
