With statements like this about Iran, which generate equally insane news headlines, they’re all either on crack or have eaten all the pastries at every single Starbucks in the country.

U.S. wary of Iran, Syria role in Iraq

In the past, said [State Dept] deputy spokesman Tom Casey, “while there have been positive statements from the Iranian government about wishing to play a positive role in Iraq, those statements haven’t been backed up by actions.” [Oh, yes they have–just actions that are the basis of the violence in the region in the first place. Please see my post with the appropriate analogy for this completely insane situation.]

He offered a similar assessment of Syria, saying the problem “is not what they say; the problem is what they do. … What we would like to see the Syrians do is take actions to, among other things, prevent foreign fighters from coming across the border into Iraq.” […] [Uh, that’s just a little silly considering a great many of those ‘foreign fighters’ happen to be wearing Syrian military uniforms.]

At the same time, there have been indications that a special U.S. advisory commission is considering recommendations that could include a broader role in the region by Syria and Iran. The Iraq Study Group, led by Bush family friend and former Secretary of State James Baker and former Rep. Lee Hamilton, is expected to issue its report soon…

But members of the commission have expressed concern that working with Iran and Syria could require America “to enter into a de facto partnership with them,” with possible trade-offs, said the official, who requested anonymity because the group’s discussions have not been made public.

Absolutely, mind-boggling, toe-curling, brain-freezing genius. Complete, utter, historical, unmitigated, blinding brilliance. Of epic proportions. Which will get Israel. Wiped. Off. The. Planet. And Millions. Of. People. Dead.

But hey, at least the 12th Imam will finally return to Earth. Wearing, no doubt, a bad Members Only jacket from the 70s. He does, after all, require Armageddon to return. And gosh, aren’t we just positive Ahmadinejad is more blowhard than crazy, fanatical genocidal Jew-hating madman? Yeah, sure we are.

So let’s all just have another piece of pie.

Just another fact indicating that we have never left the world of the foreign policy “realist” in the State Department and its consequent intellectual and moral dishonesty and cowardice. Only now, with Bush 43 kowtowing to the execrable Bush 41 crowd, the snivilers can be more open and explicit.

Is the State Department taking a little harder look at the assassination of Pierre Gemayel in Lebanon? A Christian and the FIFTH anti-Syrian Lebanese leader to be killed in the last two years!

    America is in trouble.
