Ethics play a big part in all we do. As an example, if you’re ethical, you think twice about attacking our troops during a time of war. If you’re ethical, you go out of your way to not give aid and comfort to the enemy by telling the world, and the terrorist enemy, by condemning your own country to the media. If you’re ethical, you don’t sell out your nation to make your political opponents look bad, in your own cynical effort to get more power.

And then there’s John Murtha. John Fund at the WSJ details for us the unethical past of Murtha, which explains the unconscionable behavior of that man, his slander of our troops and maligning of our nation for so long. It’s all about ethics, and Murtha’s lack of them in general.

Meet the New Boss
John Murtha and Congress’s “culture of corruption.”

But several members are privately aghast that Mr. Murtha, a pork-barreling opponent of most House ethics reforms, could become the second most visible symbol of the new Democratic rule. “We are supposed to change business as usual, not put the fox in charge of the henhouse,” one Democratic member told me. “It’s not just the Abscam scandal of the 1980s that he barely dodged, he’s a disaster waiting to happen because of his current behavior,” another told me…

Melanie Sloan, the liberal head of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, was cheered on by Democrats six weeks ago when she helped reveal the Mark Foley scandal. Now she says that “Ms. Pelosi’s endorsement of Rep. Murtha, one of the most unethical members of Congress, show that she may have prioritized ethics reform merely to win votes with no real commitment to changing the culture of corruption.”…

With House members voting on their leadership tomorrow, this is your Must Read of the day. Pelosi has said she will “ensure” Murtha wins the election to be Majority Leader. If that happens it will be an indication to the whole nation that the Dem campaign promise to end corruption and to change the way things are done, was nothing more than Bravo Sierra. This should not just roil Repubs, but Dems as well who actually believe that Dem leaders are actually somehow different and can be trusted.

Combine this ‘business as usual’ from Pelosi with their cut-and-run attitude with the war against Radical Islamists, and all the election gets us is more of the same at home, and a surrender to our enemy. And the Dems haven’t even taken control yet. If they want a remote chance at the White House in ’08 (if we’re all still here) they had better demand something different and better from their “leader” Pelosi.
