Valerie Plame

The lesson here is quite clear: If you sue people for “outing” you as a spy, who didn’t out you as a spy, your lawsuit will get thrown out.

Ex-CIA Agent’s Suit Against Top Officials Is Dismissed

A former undercover CIA operative who sued Vice President Cheney and other top government officials for exposing her tie to Langley, Valerie Plame, is planning an appeal after a federal judge tossed the case out.

In a 41-page ruling yesterday, Judge John Bates concluded that the lawsuit was fatally flawed even if Ms. Plame and her husband, Joseph Wilson IV, could prove the existence of a high-level conspiracy to punish her for Mr. Wilson’s criticism of the White House’s statements on Iraq.

When they filed their suit a year ago, the couple claimed their constitutional rights were violated by Mr. Cheney, his former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby Jr., and a top White House political adviser, Karl Rove. In September, after it emerged that a former deputy secretary of state, Richard Armitage, triggered the first published mention of Ms. Plame’s CIA connection, the couple added Mr. Armitage as a defendant in the case.

Yeah, it’s not easy to accept that it was a sloppy gossip who “outed” you, or facing the fact that you’re just not important enough for the leaders of the free world to be obsessing about you in the manner in which you imagined.

And for MalNars, “imagined” is indeed the operative word.

Had Dick A. not outed her she would always have been what she was – a good looking nobody. If Karl and the other Dick(VP) are half as smart as they think they are they have regretted the decision to attack her instead of concentrating on Joe. – I think Karl and Dick probably do not regret it because they in fact are dumb; not smart.

She looks a bit miffed in the picture. Can’t really PLAME her. 🙂

Alas, poor Val. The world doesn’t revolve around you. No doubt something she will need to be reminded of time and time again.

So, there must be a reason her perjury trial hasn’t begun, right?

One piece of sanity is a world that is becoming increasingly more insane by the second – go figure. Hopefully, her appeal won’t go before a Bush-hating judge.

Hey – maybe we can get TWO pieces of sanity and Albany will finally reject King Bloomberg’s $8-a-day “congestion tax” insanity once and for all.

    But now I’m getting greedy.

The lawyers who brought this idiotic suit should be sanctioned by being required to pay all the legal fees of the Defendants plus a couple of hundred grand to get it into the fat heads of shysters that the legal system doesn’t put up with such a frivolous waste of time and resources. Too bad the system does allow such BS regularly and without cost to the malnar perpetrators.

    Thor,

That would be “loser pays” – a GREAT way to put an end to frivolous lawsuits (which is why so many Democrats oppose it).

I don’t think they (the lawyers) should be sanctioned or fined, only that they should have to pay the legal fees of the defendants AND pay court costs.

Tammy: More than a “sloppy gossip,” it would appear. From everything I’ve heard and read, Richard A. had, shall we say, ulterior motives in “leaking” the name of double-naught spy extraordinare, Valerie Lame. Always something going on behind the scenes inside the Beltway (layers upon layers upon layers).

And WARDMD is right — adopt a “loser pays” system, and the amount of litigation in this country drops to something like 10% of its present volume (and this from a lawyer, albeit one who despises the John Edwardses of this planet, along with all of his smarmy kameraden).
